A trip to Niagara Falls was enjoyed by the students of Grades 7 and 8 of Coldwater Public School last week. While in the area they visited the Tivoli Miniature World and toured Fort George on River Road where they had lunch. The trip to the ob- servation deck of the Skylon Tower enabled them to see for several miles around the area. This was followed by a tour of Tussaud's Wax Museum and a visit to Marineland and Game Farm. Enroute home they stopped to see the Welland Canal locks at Thorold. Joyce Brooks and Cathy Mills of Joyce's Beauty Salon recently attended a seminar for hairdressers at the Highwayman Inn in Orillia. The Salon Harbour, Honey Har- our and Coldwater and these were the hostesses for the day. In at- tendance were 128 girls and 20 leaders, as well as their District Commissioner Mrs. Shirley Rooney. Also present at the activities was Mr. George Willmott, the first aid expert, representing St. Johns Ambulance. George was kept busy administering to several grazed knees and one injured shoulder. The day started at 10 a.m. and as the girls arrived at the fairgrounds, they were presented with a crest depicting the day and receiving a name-tag. There were 20 teams of girls competing in several relay games and obstacle courses. They stopped for lunch and a drink at noon and had just started back to the games when the rains came. It poured! One of the fathers came to the rescue and through the generosity of Mrs. Lorraine Brown, arena- board' chairlady, proceedings continued in the arena. Even though the rain interfered with the picnic, it was still a tremendous success and the leaders feel sure the second annual POVAWICO District Picnic will take place again at the same time next year. Sincere thanks is extended to the Village of Coldwater for allowing the use of the Fairgrounds, to Beach's Shell for storing the ice cream, the arena Board for the use of the premises, George Willmott for ad- ministering to the in- jured and to everyone who worked so hard to make the "'first"" annual picnic a great success. Forum, sponsored by Jaquar Beauty Sup- plies, explained the new clinical make-up of acid permanents and the new techniques for setting permanents. The afternoon session included practical work. Mary Hopper and Kelly Hall were the models for Joyce and Cathy.
