Shondecti registration increases The number of canoes registered for Shondecti July 12 has risen to 76 Monday. Kathy Voor- Merchants clobber Olympia Penetang Midland Merchants Ball Hockey Team clobbered Olympia Sports, Monday night in Penetang 10-3 in an action-packed game. Goal scorers for Olympia were Kevin Logan with two goals and Paul MclIntaggart with one. Playing for Pen-Mid Merchants Ken Corriveau, Randy Asselin, Peter Roi, Paul Balabuck, Rob Huson, and Dave Wright all scored one, with Paul Duval and Carl Cowan both adding two. Also Monday night the Penetang Legion met Graphics with Graphics winning 8-4 in a close affair. Scorers for winners were Colin Restrup and Trent Maracle both with two. Wayne King, Alan Arbour, Jim Perrault and Frank Buttineau all added one apiece. Penetang Legion scorers were Robert Geneier with one, Charles Hansford with two, and Greg St. Amant also with one. The playoffs for the Junior Ball Hockey League will begin with the semi-finals on August 4 at 7:30 p.m. when a one-game series will be played. Fourth place will play first place at 7:30 p.m. while the third place will play the second place team at 8:45 p.m. The finals will begin on Aug. 11 with the best two out of three games to be played. If necessary a third game will be played on Aug. 25 when the second place team will meet with the first place team at 7:30 p.m. zanger, co-ordinator of special events at Sainte- Marie among _ the Hurons, said two-man to six-man canoes are entered, and that a total of 166 paddlers have entered. Ernst Leitz (Canada) Ltd., still has the largest contingent, 15 canoes. An eight-man canoe manned by members of the Courier de Bois society of Toronto in period costume has been entered. As well six members of the Barrie Canoe Club will be in costume. Voorzanger = said preparations are being made on the assumption that about 200 paddlers will be participating. Shondecti is a sym- bolic re-enactment of the annual trip from Quebec to the original Sainte-Marie among the Hurons by French sailors bringing sup- plies in the 1640s. Participants in Shondecti will portage down Midland's main street from the Cen- tennial Arena to the town dock, and then will paddle their canoes down the Wye River to the restored Sainte- Marie. Registration was to officially end July 4 but © now has been extended. Forms are available at Huronia Office Ser- vices, The Parlour, the YMCA and the Midland Chamber of Commerce, in Midland.
