Originally from Liverpool, England, the home of soccer O'Hara came to Midland 13 years ago where he and his wife Geraldine and their two children, Chris, 17, and Allison 7, took residence on 8th St. Midland. When O'Hara first came to Canada he spent two months out west and it was just by chance that he stumbled onto Midland. Now after 13 years here the soccer coach will be leaving on August 15th to take a new home in Van- couver. O'Hara said if it wasn't for the job west he wouldn't leave Midland. "It's been hard to choose,' he said. O'Hara will be leaving his job at Indusmin to take a position with Wire Rope Industries as maintenangg superv- isor. O'Hara who started the Indusmin soccer team two vears ago says Jonn O'Hara he would really like to see more people in the area get interested in soccer, and keep it going. Leaving Midland will not only be sad affair for O'Hara but also for his family. When he first came to Midland there were a lot of ad- justments to be made after coming from the heavily populated city of Liverpool. Now he says with going to Vancouver he will have to begin adjusting all over again. He will miss Midland, but he says, 'I wouldn't mind coming back to live.' The soccer fan also says he generally enjoys the whole area. 'All the things the area has to offer and the Toole has been prac- tising of late preparing for this summer's schedule. Penetang Bay is his favorite spot for speed trials. It was on that bay two years in a row during races staged by the town that he delighted local fans with his talent. A quiet young man, he's employed by Town of Midland at its water pollution treatment plant. When he's not racing he can be found fighting fires as a member of Midland Volunteer Fire Department. general recreation.' 'T'll miss it, I met a lot of people.' 'Overall it's a real attractive place.' 'I intend to return now and again. That's for sure.' However one thing O'Hara will not leave is soccer. While living in England he played soccer very seriously until age 19 when he slowed down a bit. After leaving the sport for so long, he says, the past two years have been the first time he really started up again. And now he won't leave it too soon. He hopes to get involved in the sport as soon as possible while~ in Vancouver. One thing he says he will enjoy about soccer in Vancouver is the season which begins in August and _ goes through May. There'll be no stopping for the winter now! O'Hara says if there was one thing he could tell someone about soccer it would be: You've got to be fit. It's a gruelling game if you're not. on my team is" Tim Toole...off and running for another season 'Everyone ~ First trophy multiplies by 900 With enough trophies to go into his own business, Hugh Trendell of Midland Bay Woods, is the proud owner of 900. Trophies line his windows, the floors in his rec-room, tables set up especially for his wins are filled, corners of his home have piles of them and still many are packed away in boxes because there is no room for them. . All of different sizes, shapes and colors, the trophies were all won by Trendell for position finishes. If Trendell's two sons were to put their trophies won for racing with their father's they would certainly have to build a trophy room or better yet build another THE EAGLE The first family car with 4 wheel drive in 2 door, 4 door, or wagons Also save 10% on Golden Hawks, Cherokees, Cherokee S 4 door, Wagoneers, Jeep CJ instock . Out of 80 competitors coming 9th would be something to take pride in. Being invited to the Grand National Championships is an honor in itself since anyone entering can do so by invitation only and Trendell has been in- vited for the past 10 years. The International racer has been on CTV for a Sports Unlimited Talk Show, he has also made two, half-hour aS am movies on racing, on CBC Trendell also appeared in a half-hour movie and a half-hour talk show. He has also been interviewed by television stations in the United States. Trendell's fame does not stop on television. He has been interviewed by The Globe and Mail and a sports magazine in the States did an article on the 'Canadians to race.'
