Andrea Desmasdon Circulation Manager Editor's note: Andrea is in charge of cir- culation for The Midland Times, The Penetang Citizen, Elmvale Lance, The Friday Times and The Friday Citizen. \ I've been a newspaper circulation manager for nearly two years. What got me involved in the job was the fact that I've always been in- volved with kids. I've coached a lot of hockey teams. One team I coached, a Junior B team, took the | Ontario Junior B Novice championship in 1970-71. There are a lot of parts to this job. It's hard to all of a sudden think of all the things that I do. I order the newspapers and take care of the drivers who deliver the papers to dealers, and who drop the papers off for the kids. Sometimes I have to deliver the papers myself (laughs). I'm also the person who answers all of the complaints. Either the paper is late, or it's wet, and in that case I replace it. Recently one caller phoned to: say there weren't enough pages in her copy. She figured there was a section missing because of the way our sections were printed. I took her another paper. I enjoy' working with the kids and dealing with people in general. I enjoy answering con- cerns when I can satisfy a customer. About 35 kids deliver the papers Wednesday, and about the same number of Friday, in Midland. And I also have some carriers in Penetanguishene. Not all of my paperboys are boys. Ten of them are girls. I don't have the entire same group delivering papers on Friday and Wednesday because some want Fridays off. They're really good kids. When I sign a youngster to deliver papers, I generally talk to their parents first to make sure the parents approve. A lot of kids want to deliver papers but their parents don't want them to deliver. Some of the paper- boys were delivering papers long before I started. What's the shortest length of time a paperboy has worked for me? One day! I remember' one person who complained that she wasn't getting her paper. I went down to her home to watch when her paper was delivered. She had a dog on a chain that reached out to the sidewalk. The kid refused to deliver the paper, and so would I! The Friday Times Second Class Mail Registration Number 3194 and Friday Citizen Second Class Mail Registration Number 2327 by Douglas Parker Publishing Ltd at 521 Bay Street, Midland, Ontarlo/ 526-2283 Port McNicoll council supports county's resolution PORT McNICOLL: A Simcoe County Council resolution calling on municipalities in the county to place the Penetanguishene French High School issue on the ballot during this _ fall's municipal elections was endorsed here this week when members of Port MeNicoll council met. Most county coun- cillors feel much of the money to pay for con- struction of the new facility in Penetang would come out of the county's coffers and if not then at least from county taxpayers. The county wants the matter placed on local ballots to see if tax- payers are willing to foot the costs. Council in Port filed a second resolution from the Municipality of Latchford which calls for centralized schools so as to reduce tran- sportation costs.
