No cable TV for hamlet during next two years? by John Dennis If at first you don't succeed try, try again. Ron Maynard, armed with this time-tested colloquialism (and 47 signatures), stormed through the front door of Mclean Hunter Cable TV of Midland and demanded to speak to "the man in charge." Ron Maynard, acting on behalf of Wyebridge was investigating the possibility of acquiring cable service _ for Wyebridge. The cost to bring in the cable would leave very little change from a $30,000 bill. Although Mclean Hunter is receiving additional funds this year, they plan to spend the money up-dating existing service and improving service in Perkinsfield.' Ron was assured our request and petition will go to head office in September. If it is approved it will still take up to two years for the system to be installed. By then we may be using a dish receiver currently being developed by _ the Japanese. The principle behind this system is a clear, crisp signal beamed from satelites as op- posed to the con- ventional systems to which we are ac- customed. Paula Louise Moreau made a number of people happy when she decided to enter the world at 8 a.m. July 2. She provided 7 lbs. 1 oz. of smiles to mom and dad, Ernest and Denise and grandparents Alex and Mary Moreau. With the departure of Reverend Alan Kirk, comes word that Reverend Gordon Finney MA, M.Div., will be taking over as the incumbent for the parish of Elmvale. The Wyebridge Squirts played their hearts out last Wed- nesday, but let a 7-6 lead turn into an 8-7 loss at the hands of Vasey. On the mound for Wyebridge (2-6-0) Glen Weatherell went the distance and team-mate Loris Ferraro injected a new and unheard of twist to the game by scoring a home run off of a bunt. Further up the ladder, the Midgets played solidly for seven innings to rout Perkinsfield 7-2 Sunday in Wyebridge. Kitchener will be the scene Friday, July 18 as the Midgets go on the road to take on the locals in the first game of the ORSA (Ontario Rural Softball Assoc.) season. This is a new league and it is hoped a fair number of supporters will accompany the team Friday evening. The bus leaves the Wyebridge Community Centre at 4:45 p.m. and the cost if $5 per person, round trip. The Warriors split their last two outings in their regular season play. Last Monday saw them travel to Vasey only to come away on the low side of a 6-2 score. The following Thursday, they were still licking their wounds as Elmvale came into Wyebridge, one point ahead of the homebrews. They left one point behind as Wyebridge hammered them 6-2 to move into fifth spot in the league. You could hear the "crack" as far away as Barrie as Wyebridge used this game to snap a six game losing streak. Vasey played host to the nine other teams in the league, last Sunday as the league tour- nament was held under perfect weather con- ditions. "Play Ball', brought Elmvale and Wyebridge together in a 10 a.m. match-up which saw the Warriors run _ laps around the -bases five times before Elmvale had their gloves on. The Warriors only needed the required three innings to shut out Elmvale 5-0 and to move on to the next round, this time against Midland. However, in this game the Warriors not only had to contend with a hot Midland team but also fell prey to some very questionable calls by the umpires. After the game the concensus on both sides was that the umpiring left a little to be desired. Midland ended up winning 6-0 and then rounded out the day by pushing aside Hillsdale 3-0 to win first prize of $150.
