by John Dennis The minute you enter you know you're at the right place...gym mats on the floor, fitness equipment everywhere you look and four ex- perts, dressed in T- shirts and gym shorts, without an ounce of fat on their bodies. This was the setting last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as the Huronia Fitness Project rolled into Wyebridge. Most in the village who took part came away with a much better understanding of where they stood on the fitness scale, and if it was low enough, how to improve their standing. Basically in an at- tempt to make the average person more aware of the importance of fitness - participants are paced through a series of related tests that enable them to see what condition their heart is in; what per- centage of body fat they have; how much stamina ete.... It's a project everyone should take advantage of and if you missed it here in Wyebridge then why not attend the next session to be held at the Midland Arena, July 28 to Aug. 1. It seems as though not a day goes by : that someone in the village doesn't have friends or relatives visiting from distant places. Take for example, Mrs. Ruth Curry, who -is_ en- tertaining Laurene, Don Brown and sons from Grade Prairie Alberta. Even yours truly has guests from time to time. My brother Alan from Grimsby has been with us since Saturday, but leaves for home today. Stu. and Peggy Withers put out the welcome mat for son Jim and his girlfriend, Angie Lee. While here the Withers and Dennis' held a birthday bar- becue for Jim and Alan last Sunday. As a furnace is badly needed for the Com- munity Centre, this topic was discussed at length as the Wyebridge Parks and Recreation Centre held their monthly meeting last Wednesday, July 16. A shower was held in the basement of the Church of the Good Shepherd, in honour of Miss Nancy Waples, upcoming wedding. Mrs. Fox, the' groom's mother; Mrs. Silvia Waples, the bride's mother; and Nancy's sister Judy were among the many friends and relatives on hand to offer best wishes and a variety of gifts. In a shower held at the home of Mrs. Jean Fallis last Wednesday July 16, future bride Jean Jones was presented with several wonderful gifts in- cluding a complete set of luggage. In an August wedding Ms. Jones will marry Mr. John Isaacs. Heat was no problem last Wednesday for the members of the First Wyebridge Cub Pack, as they cooled off with a pool party at the home of Wendy and Brien Dutton. The _ boys devoured the ham- The importance of fitness | burgers and other goodies offered them as only Wolf Cubs could. A trip to Midland's McDonald _ Restaurant was on the agenda as Miss Jennifer Crawford and invited guests celebrated her ninth birthday. With Glen Weatherell on the mound the Wyebridge Squirts concluded the 1980 schedule by outscoring Victoria Harbour 25-20. Mike Dutton went in to relieve the starting pitcher and saved the win, during the game Cameron Kimberly poked one out of the park. Wyebridge's momentum came _ too late in the season though and despite a very impressive finish the Squirts failed to make the playoffs. Victoria Harbour was the scene last Thursday as Jeff Bales led his team to a 25-4 trouncing of the home team. Shawn Davy and Jeff Bales hit round trippers as the Peewees put on another fine display of baseball. The last regular season game for Ted Watson's crew is at home Thursday against Elmvale. The Warriors stayed alive in the play-off race this past week as they lost 9-5 in Coldwater last Monday, but quickly rebounded Thursday night to tie Hillsdale at one-apiece. Hillsdale opened the scoring midway through the game on a Mark Ronald home run. Wyebridge answered with a run the next inning and that was all, as both teams played a very tight and cautious brand of ball. Our midget team travelled to New Dundee 'last Friday evening to take part in-a best out of three series. Although they did not fare as well as hoped, the Midgets did put on an impressive display of ( controlled baseball 'for three innings. But then the home side fans who ~ turned out in droves, drowned out the sparse following from Wyebridge and the entry from New Dundee seemed to catch fire. The final score was 10-0. The second game of the series is scheduled for this Saturday July 26 at 3 p.m. A large turnout is expected and_ rest assured that the Wyebridge fans will make their presence known.
