Chapter 122 and in the matter of the lands and premises at the following municipal addresses in the Province of Ontario. NOTICE of INTENTION to DESIGNATE Take notice that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Penetanguishene intends to designate the properties including lands and buildings, at the following municipal addresses as properties of an ar- chitectural and historical value or interest under Part 1V of The Ontario Heritage Act, 1974, S. O. Chapter 122. (a) 215 Church Street -- St. James-on-the-Lines Church, constructed in 1836, stands as one of the oldest structures in the Town of Penetanguishene. It is recommended for designation as a fine, well-preserved example of frame with clapboard construction and for its strong historical importance to the Town and the Province. It was built through the efforts of the officers from the nearby Military Establishment, and maintained by its congregation in nearly its original state until today, and still serves as an active church. The attached cemetery has many headstones dating back to the 1830's. (b) 13 Burke Street -- In 1875, C. Beck built a general store on Burke Street at the foot of Nelson St., where he sold everything from hardware to groceries. Charles Beck was a major figure in the development of the Town of Penetanguishene and in the lumbering business of the area. In 1968 the store was donated to the Town provided it was used as a Museum. It is recommended for designation because it is a typical commercial building of that era. The front of the store is mainly composed of a large door centered between two large window structures. This rectangular, single, two storey building with wings on the rear and both sides, has now been standing on its original site for over 100 years. This building is all that remains of Beck's mills. (c) 32 Water Street -- This building, built before 1878 has had several owners, the most prominent being the McGibbon Family for over 50 years. In the beginning at Mr. Dodge, a merchant, used the building as a grocery store called Charlewood Grocery. In 1882 David Davidson occupied the building as an office for his lumber company until early 1900, and between 1905 and 1910 it was purchased by the McGibbons and used as a lumber office until the 43 COMPANY LTD. + Notice is hereby given that G.F.
