We know in some cases there are a number of coun- cillors and alderman doing just that...thinking about their political futures. Newcomers thinking about getting their feet wet in the © political arena should be pondering their future as well. If you are willing to work three or four nights a week, on occasion, if you are willing to accept calls from concerned taxpayers at any hour of the day or night you might just fit as a member on one of our councils. To get there though you should be prepared to knock on doors to get your message across and be prepared in no uncertain terms to tell all and sundry what has prompted you to offer yourself as a candidate. If you are not prepared to take the heat. If you are not prepared to lock horns. If your not prepared to give 200 per cent of yourself then you are wasting your time even thinking of seeking a seat on one of our councils. If it is thanks you're after stay clear of becoming a councillor for thanks is a rare commodity only given it would seem, on the rarest of oc- casions. However if you believe you have a role to play in developing your community's future then you are most certainly on the right track and the rest is up to you. Our North Simcoe com- munities need solid _in- dividuals who are willing to give of their time and talents. They are out there to be sure. It is our hope that they will come forward this fall. Some bouquets A BOUQUET to organizers of Saturday's major ladies softball tournament in Midland. Hosted by Therrien's ball teams, with $1,000 in prize money up for grabs, the affair was a resounding success from the standpoint of an exciting exhibition of softball by those teams from far and near who competed. A bouquet as well to organizers of Balm Beach's Summerama. The annual "do"' attracted a fine turnout and it, coupled with a windsurfing regatta, were both fun-filled events. And while handing out bouquets, a bouquet goes to those officials from Christian Island and Maple Valley who invited Buffy Sainte-Marie, international recording star, to perform Saturday at a Sun Festival Concert near Lafontaine. Proceeds from the concert, which could have attracted thousands more had there been more pre-publicity, will go towards hosting a two- day Christian Island Pow Wow, Aug. 23 and 24. Although these and other events staged on the weekend could have attracted bigger crowds those who did attend these functions and those who hosted them for the most part seemed pleased with the results. Finally then a bouquet to all those who organized these summer weekend ac- tivities...thanks for a job well done.
