On land the nail driving contest for women drew about 48 contestants while the Horseshoe pitch nearly outclassed the egg throw. Horseshoe tossers numbered 92 in all, but trying to spatter their opponents with raw-eggs were ap- proximately 150 eager egg throwers. Swim winners Swim races for the young people drew some accomplished __ partic- ipants and the winners in the girls tadpole race were Tammy Townes, Jean Ann Carscadden and Julie Hogan. For - the boys it was Richard Brohman, Darryl Lennox and Jonathan Major upset in making? Gilbert. In the girls 25 metre swim the winners were Lorna Hogan, Deanna Jones and Janet Carscadden while for the boys the top swimmers were Stephen Lennox and David McDougall. Lorna Hogan won the 25 metre swim for 10-11 year-old girls and George Stoddart won the boys .event. Susan Soanes and Andy Pamenter took top spots in the 12 to 13 year-old 50 metre swimmers while Brenda Stoddart and David Soanes placed first in the 14-15 year age bracket. In the 100 metre swim for youths of any age, Lorna Hogan and David Soanes placed first and in the 800 metre swim for girls and boys under 16 years, the winners were Susan and David Soanes. Boat races In other water events, the winners of the 6 HP boat races were Gord Kobe, Stephen Lauder and Dave DelGenio while 10 HP boat win- ners were Mark Buc- were Don Stoddart and Glen Sye while Juniors were David Soanes and David Fisher. Top canoe pairs were Don Stoddart and Rob McDonald as well as Ed Smith and Len LaHaye. First place canoe jousting pair was Bob Hatcher and _ Kent Granlund and second was Thane Sye -and Gary Janda. Brenda Stoddart and Debbi Soanes were tops in the 3 km. jog at the regatta while Bill Townes and Don Trencher took top spots for the men. Les Osborne and Mike Hannon won in the 6 km. jog for men. In the Shoe kicking event for ladies, Betty Hatcher took first place, Judy McDougall second Monday proved to be the day for upsets as the lone Tottenham lawn bowling rink came on strong to defeat 13 rinks from Stayner, Allandale, and Midland. The Sons of Scotland tournament was held Monday at the Midland Lawn Bowling Club. Weekend In the Georgian Bay Ladies Softball League action last weekend, the playoffs were held in Penetanguishene with Elmvale defeating Christian Island at 10 a.m. by a score of 8-3. Angie Kirton came in as the winning pitcher. In a later game, Elmvale was beaten by Penetanguishene 22-8 and the winning pitcher in that game was Donna action Pilon. Elmvale's Darlene Jamieson picked up a homerun. The final standings left Penetanguishene in first place, Elmvale second and Christian Island third. The most valuable player during' the season was Claudette Copegog of Christian Island who was presented with a trophy by League President Kirk Hargrave. New round in dispute set for Sept. 11 A second hearing concerning a dispute Midland Parks Board employee Robert Merkley has with the town is scheduled to take place Sept. 11 before the Ontario Labour Relations Board in Toronto. The first hearing was held July 21. Merkley and representatives of the town and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union were present. The hearing was closed at the union's request, town clerk Mike Owen said. Merkley was laid off in the spring, but ordered reinstated by the Labour Relations Board. In the teens division, Annette Wray took first place followed by Colleen Stanfield and Laurie Hatcher. One of the events that drew the most attention was the egg throwing contest. In the Senior pairs, the winning couples were Wendy Hatcher and Norm Stanfield first and Susan and Wayne Archer second. In the junior division, top tossers were Laurie Hatcher and Mike Genier with second place going to Suzanne Brohman and Bob Kell. Colleen Stanfield and Don Trencher took third spot in the event. Top lady nail drivers were Marg Townes, Frances Robinson and Karen Hubbard, and winners of the ladies horseshoe pitch were Linda Cormier, Shirley Stoddart and Helen Hill. Top men in the pitch were Don Pendergast and Kent Granlund. An event spanning the entire month of July was officially ended at the regatta, with the winners of the largest fish caught during the month being declared. The winner in the largest pike division was Ted McTaggart with one weighing in at 6.13% lbs. while Bill Rankin took second with his catch weighing 6 lbs. even. In the small mouth bass section, Kevin Tonkin took first, his fish coming in at 5.8 Orr Lake Regatta a huge success Ibs., and Casey Gibb was second with a fish 4.8 lbs. Kirk Higgins won in the large mouth bass division with a catch weighing 6.7 lbs. and Casey Gibb won second with his 6.4 lb. fish.
