The blaze, in his parent's home near the Northwest Basin Fire Hall in Tiny Township, was confined before it could spread to another dwelling nearby. It's the second Sunday in a Terrible house fire takes its toll row that fire has swept through a house in North Simcoe causing death. The previous Sunday a Penetanguishene woman lost her life after fire raced through her home at Chatham and Burke Streets in Penetanguishene. iny Twp. firemen uell blaze For the second weekend in a row, a terrible house fire has snatched the life of a North Simcoe resident. This time, Sunday morning, a fire that raced through a two-storey log house less than a block away from the North west Basin Fire Hall in Tiny Township was responsible for taking the life of 19- year-old Bradley David Pike. According to township fire chief Guy Maurice, Pike was alone at the time. His parents were on a camping trip. The general alarm was turned in just before 8 a.m. after a neighbour saw flames shooting through first floor windows. By the time firefighters arrived much of the main floor was engulfed in smoke and flames. It took more than an hour to bring the stubborn three-alarm fire under control. ated Firefighters from Northwest Basin were assisted by the counterparts from Lafontaine as well as from Wyevale where a tanker from that department was pressed into service. Teenager The body of the teenager was found near a front window on the main floor. It is believed he died after being overcome by smoke. Before firefighters finally got the upper hand on the blaze it had managed to work its way upstairs and out through a gaping hole in the roof. By noon the fire had been totally extinguished and exhausted firefighters were seen rolling up hoses and other equipment to return to their respective fire halls. An official from the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office at London, Ont., was called in to probe debris left in the wake of Sunday's inferno. He, along with representatives from Midland OPP, sifted through the ruins Monday in an effort to pin-point the cause of Sunday's house fire at Nor-. thwest Basin. Duplex A week before in Penetanguishene, a 37-year-old woman lost her life after fire raced through her Ontario Housing duplex at Chatham and Burke Streets. A Fire Marshal's Office official later determined the blaze was probably caused as a result of careless smoking. The woman's body was found in the doorway of her second storey bedroom. The only other oc- cupant in the house at the time, a Tay Township man, managed to jump through a second floor window to freedom. However, he suffered injuries to both feet anda hand. And fire department officials in Midland are still investigating a fire that consumed much of a Fifth Street home several weeks ago. In that blaze at least two major explosions erupted during the fire which is still under in- vestigation by local fire, police and Ontario Fire Marshal's Office officials. One man was rushed to hospital following that fire suffering burns to his back while a woman at home at the time was uninjured. BULLETIN An Ontario Fire Marshal's Official has been able to pin-point the cause of-Sunday mor- ning's house fire at Northwest Basin which took the life of a 19-year-old teenager. According to Midland OPP who have been assisting in the investigation, a grease fire on a stove in the kitchen of the dwelling was behind the blaze. Officials during the early stages of the investigation had ruled out foul play and determined the cause at that time as "ac- cidental."' Cause of death was due to asphyxiation.
