Lercar ahead 3-0 in important set against Commodore The best of seven series between Lercar and Commodore Hotel could very well be over even as you read this story. The fourth game in the Penetanguishene Fastball League series was to be played last night, barring in- clement weather. Lercar was leading the series 3 games to none as of last week, after defeating Com- modore Hotel soundly with a 9-1 score. Lercar jumped very quickly into the lead with four runs in the first inning, following up with another two in the second. The third inning provided two more runs for Lercar. The fifth inning was scoreless for Lercar, but Commodore Hotel managed to get on the score board then, with one runner crossing the plate. Lercar then answered that run with one of their own in the sixth inning to round out their scoring for the game. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Com- modore seemed to be making progress in a last minute attempt to get back into the game. The victory was largely due to the work of two young women on the Sturgeon Bay team, Bev Roper and Jane Gillham. From there Roper batted her in score the first run of the game. } Roper came in herself a few minutts later to make it 2-0 for Sturgeon Bay. Roper was also the wizard on the mound that kept Christian Island trying to figure out where the ball had gone. That is not to say that the team wasn't working as well.
