Representatives from every facet of children's service programs, from training schools, in- stitutional facilities and group homes to day nursery and_ block parent programs have been invited to attend. The politicians won't be left behind either, with municipal, federal and_ provincial representatives exp- ected to turn out in large 'numbers. "Judging from the advance registration for the Workshop, we are anticipating a very large turnout," Workshop Co-ordinator Maureen Watt told the press. "We hope to provide a very stimulating program, inviting free- wheeling discussion on several topics and concerns relating to children's servicing." The workshop will be the second conference of its type in the past two years. "The original workshop was held in September, 1978, in response to new directives from the Ministry of Community and Social Services CEOMS OC) sthe department which over- sees most services for children,' Watt said. "As a direct result of recommendations made at that session, a local Children's Services Planning Committee was appointed." "Workshop '80 is being re-convened to bring the delegates who attended the earlier meeting as well as new representatives from the wider community, up to date on the Committee's progress over the last two years," she said. Delegates The workshop will also provide delegates with a new perspective on policy direction from COMSOC and a background report on Simcoe County's in- stallation as a '"'seed" community sponsoring a one-year Children's Services Research Project. The workshop itself will begin: at 9:30 a.m. with "'perspectives", an opening session which will feature an address by Workshop Chairman Bill Bolger, and various speakers representing CO MSOC > sstibve Children's Services Planning Committee and Simcoe County Council who are the joint sponsors of the Children's Services Research Project. Following the opening ceremonies, the delegates will split up into groups of 20 or less under the direction of a group leader to discuss one of eight topics relating to children's servicing. These tasks include: Gaps and Overlapping Areas in Servicing, Voluntary Co-ordination Between Agencies, Group Homes, Assessment Services, Early Identification and Prevention, Tracking, and Hard to Serve Children. Session There will be a session called 'Utopia' which will allow delegates to explore the possibility of setting up a completely Children's Workshop could attract 100s new system of servicing children and _ their families. Spokesmen from each group will be respon- sible for reporting back to the entire meeting in the afternoon. There will also be a_ brief question and answer period following each report. "We're looking for new ideas from this brain storming session', Watt said. Although consumers are also welcome to attend the workshop, special meetings open to the public are also being scheduled for the fall. Notices of dates and locations across the County will be an- nounced in the near future Anyone wishing to attend workshop '80 can obtain a registration form by contacting Maureen Watt, Co- ordinator, Children's Services ' Research Office, Simcoe County Administration Centre, Midhurst, Ontario, LOL 1X0, or call the toll free number listed under Simcoe County in your local telephone direc- tory.
