Action hotand -- heavy at playoff by Don Lawrence Tempers flared in a game between Adco Tire and Georgian Bay Real Estate in the Olympia Fastball Toole sees better times ahead As they say, tough times are coming, and it is no more true than in the case of Tim Toole, of Midland. Toole has won the Canadian high points title four years out of the past five in outboard motor racing, but this year, he has found that champions can have their off days. His boat is a modified 70 Mercury Outboard, pushing over 100 hor- sepower, which he races for the Mercury team. Because Toole had to work this past weekend, his boat was raced in the Labatt's Gold Cup. in Picton, Ontario by Rob Scythes, the man who built his new boat with the assistance of his brother. The results? Well, they're actually pretty good, considering the way things have been going for Toole lately. Scythes drove the Mercury to a fourth place finish in a field of seven. The next race date for Toole will be on the 20th and 21st of this month in Dunnville, Ont., or if he has to work again, Scythes will drive the boat. The game was the second in a series of three, and it was called in the fifth inning ac- cording to a rule designed to save face for the losing team. Adco was winning 11-0 at the fifth inning. when the game was called. Adco began their scoring in the first in- ning, with three runners crossing the plate, remaining scoreless in the second. Three more runners came in for Adco in the third inning, and it seemed to be taking its toll on the players of Georgian Bay Real Estate. Blake Mathews, of Georgian Bay Real Estate, had appeared to be quite angry at something from the very start of the game. This culminated itself in the top of the fourth inning when he threw a ball at Rick Windross, the pitcher of the same team, striking him in the chest. Windross walked off the field, and Mathews was pulled out of the game. A quick change in pitcher and catcher followed for Georgian Bay, with Bob Arm- strong taking over the catching duties, and Andy Zurawski filling in for Windross on the mound. The fourth inning wasn't as good as the others for Adco, but they weren't com- plaining, as they still got one run. Making up for their slow fourth inning, Adco brought in four runs to make it necessary to call the game. Brian Barnes pitched the win for Adco, with Rick Windross and Andy Zurawski sharing the pitching for Georgian Bay. The third and final game of the series was to be played last night at the Midland diamond, the winner of that game going on to meet Huronia Mall in a 4 out of 7 series. The first game of that series will be played at the Midland diamond tonight, beginning at 7 p.m., and continuing every night until the series is settled.
