Finley over 60 miles after six days At last report, Jim Finley of Midland was well over 60 miles into his trek to Calabogie. His approximate location is between Head Lake and Kinlougnt. No word yet on how many pounds he has lost for cancer research though. If you would like to sponsor Finley, there is still time. Just contact his family at 526-4408 and tell them how much you're willing to pledge for lost pounds and a good cause. coached by the former NHL player Bep Guidolin. feature players from Minesing, Base Borden and Angus and will be Athletics bolstered? If all goes well, Midland Athletics will be featuring three new players at their Monday tryouts in the Midland Arena. A release from the Barrie Flyers has not yet been given for Ken Knapton, now part of the Athlete's Edge in Penetanguishene. Wayne King 'of Midland is hoping for his release from the Collingwood Shipbuilders, while Billy Beauchamp is asking for his walking papers from the Orillia Travelways team. If the releases are not given by Monday, the three will not be able to step on the ice for Midland at their tryouts until the releases have been granted. - However, there is reported to be progress being made at this time in the negotiations. The talks have been held up so far by the unavailability of 'funds to procure their releases without giving up a valuable player in return. Tough decisions? Coaches of the Midland Centennial Jr. C's have a tough chore ahead of them deciding upon their new team. Of the 45 aspiring players, 30 are left which will still be cut down even further to the 17 necessary to ice a team. There are still 3 or 4 proven Junior players that haven't come out yet, and it is hoped that they will come out to the next practice. Andy Zurawski, Noel McEachern, Steve Friesen, Dale Denis and John Ironside all stand a good chance of making the team again this year, after having a good past season. Players are also returning from two years ago, having sat out a year but not seeming to have suffered for it in their play. Dwayne Story, Steve Dunn, and Travis Bonneville will be returning to the ice after the year's absence. Some of the newcomers to the Juniors' camp have been very impressive so far on the ice. Fred Dance, Rob Greenlaw, Don Whit- taker, Ernie Cooper and Barry Hicks all have proven that they will be top contenders for the team. Midgets coming up through the ranks, such as Todd Clarke, Ken Mugford, Paul Hahn, Brad Copeland, Mike Downer, John Johnson, Gerry Borsa, and Brian Moore and the others in the camp will make the final decision very difficult indeed. Tryouts will continue in the Wasaga Beach Arena Sunday at 8:30 until 10 p.m. The tryouts will then move to the Midland Arena on Monday, beginning at 7 p.m. and running until 8:30 p.m. The same times will be used on Tuesday night.
