2,000 Scouts heading to Tiny Twp throwing. So the by Robin Nutbrown Preparation for Lakeland IV Adven- turee is in its final days. From Sept. 26 to 28, groups affiliated with Boy Scouts of Canada from Lakeland Region will be attending this big campout being held at Awenda Provincial Park in Tiny Township. The Steering com- mittee, Program committee, Program sub-committees and others involved in Lakeland IV Adven- turee are doing a lot of work behind the scenes. Imagine yourself supplying services like first aid, water, garbage disposal and security for numbers like 1,500 to 2,000? Well this job is being done by the logistics chairman, Bob Kay. Also, many others are involved in supplying these services to make his job successful. Program chairman Howard Jackson is responsible for all aspects of program planning and execution for Lakeland IV Adventuree. Sub-co- mmittees have formed to give all Scouting sections a "FUN"' program for the whole weekend. Fun activities like an obstacle course have been set Beavers. Cubs will be participating in a circus parade and midway games. Scouts have several types of activities ranging from a chariot race toe javelin up for'. the ' program committees have put together fun programs for the boys. Mrs. Bonnie Shalof, who is finance and registration chairwo- man is doing a lot of work behind the scenes. Her job_ entails financial planning and control for Lakeland IV. Also, the keeping of records in relation to registration. Hard work has been done by many people to make this event-a success. Lakeland IV has been in the planning for a year. Bob Armstrong has been very busy for quite sometime, looking after administration, public relations, record keeping, information and communications both in preparation for and during the event. As you see, many people are involved in Scouting! Ted Roberts, chair- man of Lakeland IV has a very important job. He assures _ that proper organization and reporting lines are established and that duties of all personnel on organizing com- mittees are clearly defined and carried out. Without these key people, Ted Roberts, Bob Armstrong, Bob Kay, Bonnie Shalof, Howard Jackson and many, many more, it would be next to im- possible to carry out an event of this magnitude in South Georgian Bay District. Tele-a-thion gearing up for Oct. 18-19 There's to be a giant "Opportunathon" (tele-a- thon) for Huronia Association for the Mentally Retarded at the Yonge Street Civic Centre, from noon Oct. 18 to noon Oct. 19. The tele-a-thon will feature a dance-a-thon for high school students with trophies and cash prizes to be awarded to the top three couples who complete the event. Should there be more than three couples the prizes will be awarded to the dancers in best costume who complete the grinding 24-hour marathon.
