World Cup is unique because it is a competition of individuals rather than nations. The International Gymnastics Federation (F.I.G.) has invited the best female and male gymnasts in the world, based on rankings in the 1980 Moscow Olympics and the 1979 World Cham- pionships in Fort Worth. Because of the Olympic boycott, World Cup '80 will be the competition that "would have taken place in Moscow", being the only occasion when all of the world's best gymnasts compete for individual and all around honours this year. Gymnasts in- PENETANG -- MIDLAND Gymnastics Corner GYM CLUB vited by F.I.G. include Comaneci, Kim, Davidova, Ditiatin, Kayiyama, Connor and Delesalle, Schlegel and Hawco from Canada. Of special interest will be~ the per- formance of four gymnasts from the People's Republic of china, competing in World Cup for the first time. In Fort Worth--their first appearance on the international competitive level--these Chinese gymnasts finished in the top 15 and many observers feel the World Cup '80 will be the competition at which they offer serious challenge for top honours. Because of the calibre of athletes at World Cup '80, this competition will be of tremendous interest to coaches, teachers. and all gymnasts whether at the school, club or recreational level of this sport. One ticket will cover all four com- petitions. The prices are as follows: $36 for golds reds; $20 for blues greens and $14 for greys. Tickets can be purchased by mailorder only, from Maple Leaf Gardens. Individual tickets, if available, will only be sold in October. For additional in- formation, please phone 416-429-7701, ext.
