Huronia calendar Sept. 27 An Evening of Song, to be performed by Vicki Thompson and accompanist Kathleen Lohrenz, begins at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27th in Calvary Baptist Church, King Street in Midland. Everyone is welcome. Oct. 1 -- A puppet show will be put on during the Midland Public Library's pre-schoolers' story hour. which starts at 10:30 a.m. in the library. October 1 and 2 The Community Services Team at the Penetanguishene Mental Health Centre is holding an open house Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 11 a.m, to 4 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 2 from 2 to 7 p.m. at its' new headquarters in the former superintendent's residence on the grounds. Members of the public and health care professionals are invited to come to meet team members, view displays and audio visual productions about the services available. Oct. 24 -- The Penetanguishene ~ United Church Women are holding a rummage sale in the Legion Hall Friday, Oct. 24 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Page 28, Friday, September 26,1980 Three ESPSS gals make it to tennis finals in Orillia by Ken Regan Sixteen students from Ecole Secondaire Penetanguishene Secondary School travelled to the Zone 3 Tennis Tournament in Orillia. on Monday and three of the girls made their way to. the Georgian Bay Secon- darv School Athletic Association Tennis Finals. The three girls, Anne Merkley, Jane Merkley and Lisa Bourgeois were all champions in their particular divisions on Monday and if they can win their way to the semi-final round of the G.B.S.S.A. tournament, they will qualify for a spot in the All-Ontario finals in Brantford on Oct. 2. Anne Merkley won the Girls' Singles play while Jane Merkley and Lisa Bourgeois won the Girls' Doubles. Several of the boys teams did very well at Monday's_ tournament also. Joe Lafreniere and Martin Woods were consolation champs in the Boys' Doubles while Pierre Gignac teamed up with Michelle Desjardins to win the consolation round in the Mixed Doubles. The tournament held Monday in Orillia in- cluded teams from Midland, (Mid.), Brock- Cannington, Elmvale, (Elm), and _ Orillia District Collegiate Institute, (OD). Ernie Desroches ran hard for first place for the Midland squad with Glen Heyer taking 12th, Rick Scott 16th, Chris Shearer 20th, Larry Cadieux 25th, Rod Nanibush 26th and Dwight Copegog 44th. Both the midget and junior boys' teams claimed fourth spot in their divisions. Ian Porter claimed 11th spot with Denny Cadieux coming in 20th, Bill Black 23rd and Steve Robertson 3ist. Junior boy Dave Larmand finished in 14th position while teammate Dan Guthrie took 15th. Paul Northcott was 17th. Bernard Cadieux 24th. Kent Goldsmith 33rd. Crusaders take on Kolts It will be a regular battle of giants tonight at the Midland YMCA when St. Theresa's Crusaders take on the Kapuskasing Kolts at 6:30 p.m. The seniors boys' vollevhall team from St. Theresa's is ranked number one in single "A" play. Thev will come up against the Kolts in a game that is bound to create, a 1Ole ol 2x7 citement for volleyball fans in Midland. ea The Kolts are ranked fourth in Ontario.
