Greaves feted at two parties Last week was an exciting one for Margaret and Kenn Greaves, who celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary. On Sunday afternoon, September 21, the family surprised them with an open-house. Their oldest son, Stuart and his wife Michelle, were there from Sault Ste. Marie. Andy was home from Swanhill, Alberta where he is stationed with the Royal North West Mounted Police Force. Members from both sides of the Greaves family were present, along with many friends. All told, eighty or more people were there to wish them a Happy Anniversary. The lovely day made it possible for them to enjoy being out on their lawn. Friday night, Sep- tember 26, the Greaves were again taken by surprise. Twenty or more friends and neigh- bours popped in on them, presenting them with a lovely gift from the community. This was four folding chairs to go with a games table that had been given to them earlier. Everyone enjoyed the evening and the lunch that followed. Best Wishes from all of us Marg and Ken. Matinees at 2 p.m. Wed., $4.50 Student matinee Thurs. 1 p.m. staggered through seven innings of slap- stick baseball. With home brew, Milt "Crazy Legs", on the mound the Wonders tried to keep the game serious, but it was to no avail and soon both sides were spending more time doubled over in laughter than playing ball. CKVR's Steve Rud- dick proved he had speed as he stepped up to the plate, hit the ball and before Crazy Legs could blink, was on third base. Several times during the game, a grapefruit was substituted for the baseball resulting in a few "'sticky"' situations. The threat of rain was always present, but for the most part the weather was just right for baseball. In fact, it was warm enough to coax Harold Leonard into playing the entire game in just a bathing suit. The fact that it was a relic from the turn of the century is irrelevant. Proceeds The organizers and participants in the game wish to thank all those who came out and supported the event. All proceeds were applied to the cost of purchasing and installing a new furnace for the com- munity centre. According to Milt Ellery, who headed up the entire afternoon's activities reported a net profit of $394. Refreshments were served afterwards to all participants.
