When the 165th Wintario draw is held in the Midland Civic Centre Oct. 9, five grand prizes of $100,000, and 20 prizes of $25,000 each will be given away, together with, Midland's mayor hopes, a small boost for Midland. Mayor Moreland Lynn is the official pre- draw host for the evening. He does not expect to get on camera, but he is optimistic that Midland will get a plug in the short description of the town that is in- cluded in the half-hour live show. Newest Pathfinders The first Penetang Pathfinders will be well represented by this fine looking group of young ladies. The girls were initiated into Pathfinders at St. Ann's Church Tuesday night. President Barbara Simpson welcomed 71 auxilians to the lun- cheon at the Brooklea Country Club, convened by vice-president Anne Robertson. Many new members' were _ in- troduced by their auxilian friends, , A review of successful summer activities followed by a discussion of the various fall and winter projects sparked a lively business meeting Projects Financial statements presented by summer project convenors more than justified the time and work involved. Excellent reports were given by Jennifer Chalmers (Antique Market); Jean Bonyun (Tag Day); and Mary Luke (Fall Fashion Show). The next big project will be the "Candlelight and Wine" ball, the annual dinner-dance to be held at the Country Mill. Nov. 15. According to convenors Arlene Shouldice and Helen Redman, the dance has returned to its more popular Saturday night date. More information will be published later. Gift Shop convenor Barbara D'Aoust thanked the many volunteers who kept the shop open and busy all summer Tangible evidence were the two cheques presented by Mrs. D'Aoust to the general account - one on July 21 for $2,500 and one for $1,000. at the September meeting. The whole idea of having Wintario here in Midland is to promote the community, says the mayor, who hopes there will be an opportunity to tell the viewers across the province about Midland. Admission to the Civie Centre is $3 per person. Included is a free Wintario Ticket. Proceeds will go to the Civic Centre building fund. Tickets are available from a booth located at the corner of King Street and Hugel Avenue in Midland. In more than five years. over $1 billion worth of government lottery tickets have been purchased. MP's local Advisory Board to assess proposed projects Doug Lewis, member of Parliament for Simcoe North, an- nounced the ap- pointment of an Advisory Board for the Canada Community Development Projects. Riding of Simcoe North has been allocated a $125,000 grant by the Ministry of Employment and Immigration for the Projects. Lewis stated, "This grant is designed to help women, natives, youth and the _ physically disabled in the creation of ongoing employment, projects which develop year round tourism, provision of day care and re-orientation of women in the labour force." Someone, sometime this summer left a large brown paper bag stuffed full of tapes at the TURKEY SHOOT Sunday, Oct. 5th, 12:30 p.m. hospital. Welcome Service One of the most un- derstated and yet the most appreciated service supplied by the auxiliary is the chronic ward visiting. Each Monday and Thursday from 2-4 p.m., Lucy Harrington and some of her volunteers provide a_ pleasant social visit complete with homemade baking, to the chronic patients.
