A new Big Brothers center, in addition to the five already in operation in the local area, opened officially Sunday in McGuire House in Penetanguishene. Centre Flos W.I. Meeting has interesting guests Over 60 women at- tended the district September meeting of the Centre Flos Women's Institute, held at the Lions Club Building on Con. 7. Members from Centre Vespra W.I., Allenwood W.I. and Saurin were guests of Centre Flos and Crossland Women's Institutes. President, Mrs. Robt. Sheardown of Centre Flos W.I. welcomed evervone and turned the meeting over to the Conveners, Mrs. Paul Bertram and Mrs. Ken Cooper. A special contest that involved last names of W.I. members was won by Mrs. Ewart Thurlow. Rodger Allen and Paul Steele presented a humorous skit "Who's on First?" which was enjoved by everyone. A film called '"Pat- terns of Love" was presented by Home Economist Miss Mar- jorie MacDonald. The film is about a collection of quilts that are now owned by Canada Packers through prizes from Fall Fairs and how they are selected. Many winners were in- terviewed on the film. This collection of quilts will be shown at our Elmvale Fall Fair this year. President Mrs. Robertson, Crossland W.I. introduced our speaker, Mrs. Ron Coutts. Mrs. Coutts is chairlady of the Program for Women at the International Ploughing Match, to be held at Gordon Atkin- sons farm and surrounding farms at Don Crown Hill, 1981. She informed us of her duties and mentioned about the quilt com- petitions that will in- clude three different classes. Usually there is only one and there are special rules for the competitions. Mrs. Don Robertson thanked Mrs. Coutts for coming and relating the happenings thus far in the program for women. Barrie, in A contest conducted by Mrs. George Archer was won by Mrs. Reg Truax and Mrs. Draper. Several draws were given and Mrs. Alex Sheppard, Mrs. Ivan French, Mrs. Mabel Wilkinson, Mrs. Den Robertson, Mrs. John Knuff and Mrs. Dolly Phillips were winners. The evening closed with a social time which brought a close to a successful evening. Last Sunday, Sept. 28, the Presbyterian church celebrated its 129th Anniversary. The Ontario Bible College Chorale group came by bus from Toronto to present their ministry in songs and praises. David Archer was the organist. Rev. Wm. Lennips, Bradford delivered the sermon. Rev. Ivan Dambrowitz is the regular minister. The church' was beautifully decorated with autumn flowers for the occasion. This church has a small congregation except special days when everyone comes back home to remember and celebrate. Following the service, lunch was served by the ladies of the church and a happy time was had by all.
