Be \ Friday night's game between Penetangui- shene Jr. Kings hockey team and Oro 77's of the Ontario Hockey Association provided lots of action for the full house of fans that packed Penetanguis- hene Arena for the Kings' 5-3 win. Penetanguishene thought they had an early lead as they bore down on the net and fired a shot that hit the post. The light went on and the fans cheered but the cheer didn't last long as the goal wasn't counted, chalked up to an error behind the net. A second goal wasn't allowed for Penetanguishene shor- tly afterward when Oro's goaltender left the net on a delayed penalty for. Penetanguishene. The referee blew the whistle just after a - Kings' player let the shot go that hit the net squarely in the middle. This chain of events LAeeE At the Penetanguishene fans in less than an amiable mood as they saw two goals slip out of their team's fingers. The Kings wanted to get the first goal in order to make up for the earlier disappointments and that they did. Wayne Dixon let go a shot that put the Kings ahead 1-0 with only eight seconds left in the first period. Assists went to Carl Cowan and Terry King on the power play goal. Two goals Early in the second period, the Kings Kings edge out Oro 5-3 jumped ahead two goals when Wayne Dixon scored his second goal of the game two minutes and 46 seconds after play resumed following the intermission. Terry King recorded his second assist on this short handed goal while Paul Robillard was the other King involved in the play. Oro received their first goal while Penetanguishene had a man in the penalty box a mere 43 seconds later. David Cyr scored that goal for Oro with assists going to Greg McCuaig and Paul Partridge. Penetanguishene increased their lead again when Paal Robillard scored off a pass from Terry King and Brad Copeland, that goal coming with 11:11 left in the second period. Oro was not to be outdone though as they came with two quick goals before the end of the second period. Lorran-Cooney got an unassisted goal with only 6:43 left in the middle period for Oro. ~ Ted Scholte tied the game up for Oro in the last 32 seconds of that period on a power play with assists going to linemates Peter Cole and Murray Hadley. The third period was very close with neither team scoring until the 6:09 mark. Penetanguishene received their first of two unanswered goals when Paul Robillard scored his second goal of the game with a pass from Terry Pilon. Carl Cowan came through to put Penetanguishene ahead Injuries plague Centennials Midland Centennials hockey club is having a bout with injuries which seems to be putting them back a bit in their bid for a winning team. Their game Sunday night against Haliburton saw them go down to defeat 10-5 in an away game that took its toll on the young club. Rob Greenlaw returned to the ice after a one game absence because of a back injury but was forced to leave the game when his back became too sore to play. Frank Dance was also forced to leave the ice when he hurt his elbow. These injuries left the Centennials short on defence, with only two men left back for the last period. Terry Thomas and John Webb performed rather well on defence considering that they were playing Straight through the third period. ~ In fact, the score doesn't really do justice to the play of Midland. They were leading 4-3 at one time and at the end of the second period the score was 5-4 for Haliburton. Fatique Injuries and fatique seemed to be working against Midland though as Haliburton raced ahead, scoring' six goals in the final period. - Haliburton found the Centennials a good contest - even though they were having problems as they were unable to score on Midland for a long time. They only got their last three goals in the final four or five minutes of the game. There were very few penalties in the game and Andy Zurawski was exceptional for Midland with a hat trick to his name. Tom Garner, team representative, says that, "I'm not disheartened at all, once they get the experience, they're going to be good hockey players."' two goals- 35 seconds later to ensure the win for the Kings. Cowan's unassisted goal launched the crowd into applause as they realized that victory lay within reach if only the Kings could hold on for the final five minutes. Stick handling Penetanguishene did hold on, displaying stick handling and _ play breaking they showed so well throughout the game. In fact, the Kings continuously took the puck away from Oro, clearing the play from their end and keeping Oro locked in their own end for most of the Paul Goodine Brad Copeland More Penetang Kings Paul Robillard game.
