Sgiving seven and eight students from St. John's School in Sea on Eh a : officially opens " Nichol, | purchased a collection of 10 Watson prints for his Watson Gallery Crowds of art lovers and photography enthusiasts | -. gathered Sunday afternoon at the new gallery of well known local photographer Budd Watson, for the official opening of his new enterprise. The gallery, located in the old YMCA building on a Hugel Avenue, houses a huge collection of prints that have made Watson a name in the art world. ' In attendance for the ceremonies was David. president of Loblaws, who recently offices on St. Clair Avenue in Toronto, a group of offices which were later chosen for the outstanding office design award for all of North America. Nichol's admiration for Watson's work was "evident in his address to the 200 or so onlookers, as Waubaushene prepared a turkey dinner for them Friday. The students sang for the ladies afterward which made for a nice finish to the day. he compared himself to the artist saying, "We have alotincommon. We're both essentially in the same . pbusiness. "The food business," he equipped. "Budd is in the spiritual food business and I'm in the material food business."' "Too often we are separated from the land and nature", he said, "These pictures fill that primeival need to make the connection."' With tears in his eyes, Budd Watson was the next to speak. He remembered how, six months ago he got the idea for and began work on the gallery. He expressed his deepest appreciation to those who supported him, both morally and financially and begged those people to 'keep it coming'. Cameras in place during the ceremonies, were then set in motion and a shot was taken of Watson and Nichol with crowds of onlookers in the background. Watson mentioned his showing at the McMichael Gallerv at Kleinberg. a 16 month stint where he first met Dave Nichol. While waiting for his visitor, Watson said he noticed about 247 people file through the doors, starving for the beauty on display there. "Let them be entertained and let their minds be fed', he stated.
