Today the s'udent bodv of ESPSS is going out to "blitz? for our citrus fruit campaign. We're hoping to cover The actors and ac- tresses are practising twice a week for Man of LaMancha. On Nov. 7 we're going to practices are going well and the performances promise to be very good. The "pit band" also practises twice a week, on Tuesdays' and Thursday evenings. As of now. the performers and musicians practise separately but they will be getting together soon. The Music depart- ment set a date for this vear's concert -- Dec. 18. The concert band practises Mondays after school and the stage band practises after school on Wednesdays. With each practice, there is considerable improvement. Thursday, a number of senior students will be visiting various universities. It was a busy week for Spiker second in Int. Ascoring Terry Spiker is the only Midland Athletic player to get into the scoring race in Intermediate A hockey league action as of Oct. 22. Spiker is in second place, well up in the standings with eight goals and two assists for 10 points. He is tied with three other players in that position, Lance Kealy of Owen Sound Greys, Steve Lyon of Georgetown Raiders and Terry Giffen of Barrie Flyers. All four are only two points out of first place, with another four players tied for the top position. Susan Fraser has won several championships, her name being synonymous with horse back riding par excellence. In 1974, Fraser placed in second place in the Three Day Event Championships at Joker's Hill. She was Canadian Preliminary Champion and a Rothman's scholarship winner in 1975. This past summer, Fraser coached the Nova Scotia Dressage team which won the Ontario Vytas Urdas of Orillia Terriers and Al Woods of Georgetown Raiders. On that date, Midland was fifth in team penalty minutes with 76, Georgetown having the most with 224. Midland is last in team power play goals with two. Collingwood Shipbuilders are first with eight. Midland, on the other hand, is first in team short handed goals with two. Midland's goals against_average is 8.50, their goal's for at 4.50. X-Country The GBSSA cross- country meet was held in Thornlea last Wed- nesdav. The top 10 runners in each division went on to run in the Ontario's. Three ESPSS runners came very close to qualifving. Suzanne Desroches placed 12th out of 64 in the midget girls race; and senior runners Lyle Buttineau and John Roi ended up 13th and 14th respec- tivelv. In the midget bovs race there were 120 runners in which Ken McGrath finished 25th. Volleyball Penetang's' three bovs' volleyball teams hosted squads from Midland and Orillia District. action In senior ESPSS was defeated by both MSS, (6-15 and 9- 15) and ODCVI (4-15 and 0-15). Penetang's junior team split their matches defeating Midland 16-14, 15-12 and losing to Orillia District 14-16, 9- 15. Our midget team lost to MSS 8-15, 7-15 and to Orillia District as well by the scores of 11-15, 2-_ 15. Basketball In basketball, Penetang's girls travelled to Midland to face the powerful MSS girls basketball teams. The midget girls lost 17- 38. with Luanne Hook and Jackie Arbour as high scorers for Penetang. ESPSS Junior girls were undefeated going into their game against Midland but lost out by the score of 20-41. Penetang's Suzanne Desroches scored six points. Midland's senior girls basketball team overpowered ESPSS 53- 28. Bev and Barb Fit- zgerald were high scorers from Penetang with 10 and eight points respectively. ESPSS had its ninth annual senior girls basketball tournament this past weekend with five senior teams and one junior team com- peting. Barrie North's seniors emerged victorious over ESPSS. seniors in the championship finals, the score ending at 32- 19. Elmvale, last year's champions, went home with the silver medal as consolation winners. ESPSS defeated Elmvale 38-35 and Parrv sound 33-20 to win a berth in the finals. Fraser will be giving clinics throughout Canada and United States as well.
