District happenings Library to hold lecture "Plain facts on income tax" will be the topic of a lecture at the Flos-Elmvale Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 13. The program, which starts at 7:30 p.m. is sponsored by the Flos-Elmvale Public Library, Community Legal Education Ontario, Georgian Bay Regional Library System and the Outreach Ontario program of the Ministry of Culture and Recreation. Guest speaker for the program is Peter Sherriff. Sherriff in his talk will cover income from employment and business, capital gains, corporate taxation and allowable deductions. Registered retirement savings plans and registered home ownership plans will also be discussed. The program is free and everyone is welcome to attend. Curbs rising on Midland Street Curbs are being constructed this week in Midland on Montreal Street. The rebuilding of the street is on schedule, says the town's commissioner of works. The water mains and storm drains and sewage lines are in the ground. The end of November is the target for completion of work. The close of winter may mean some work will be left until the spring. Commissioner Percy Ehler said. The expansion of the Midland sewage treatment plant is at the halfway point. $2.5 million has been spent. Nearly all of the concrete will be poured by the end of the season. Advance polls Anyone expecting to be out of the village of Elmvale or Townships of Flos and Medonte Nov. 10, can be rest assured their vote will count as advance polls for the three municipalities are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Residents of the village can cast their ballot in the council chambers at the community hall that day. Medonte citizens can do so at the Municipal offices in Moonstone. Several polls have been set up for Flos voters though, the first of which is the township offices in Elmvale. Others set up include poll number one at the home of Francis Hall on Concession 3; poll two at Mrs. Harvey Rowley's on County Road 30; poll three at St. Patrick's School in Phelpston; poll four at Mrs. Elva Smith's at Lot 21-22 Concession 4; poll five at the home of Doug Langman on Highway 92 at Side Road 20 and poll number six at the residence of Herb Ritchie on Highway 92 across from the Sales Barns. Hayter was at Burkevale on Sept. 22 to perform a 90 minute show for grades 5 through 8 and _ his audience was so responsive, and his show so popular that he second _ performance. This. time around however Hayter will perform for grades three and four at Burkevale, and because of the younger age of pupils the show will be: slightly abbreviated. In his show, Hayter, who is currently completing a tour of Western Canada, recites stories and poems by. Robert Ser- vice. one of Canada's foremost poet laureates. The recitations gre brought to life though by mimic the Yukon poet's character and man- nerisms. In addition, the "individual characters of Service's poems come to life as Hayter, by way of voice and gesture is_tran- sformed into the men and characters that roamed the Yukon Territory years ago and gave Service inspiration for works like "Wan- derlust" and "the Cremation of Sam McGee."'
