This meeting was called due to events that started in March of 1980 when the province changed the factors that apportion the rate of taxation for each of the 37 municipalities within Simcoe County for educational purposes. Some municipalities, generally rural areas, were faced with dramatic tax increases that were thought to be unacceptable. Some trustees on the Simcoe County Board of Education led by Frank Prothero sought a meeting with area MPPs. Representatives A joint committee was then formed consisting of representatives of countv council, cities of Barrie and_ Orillia, Roman Catholie Separate School Board and the Simcoe County Board of Education chaired by Allen McLean, warden of Simcoe County. It was this committee which met last Tuesday afternoon with the minister of education and officials, from various ministries of the Ontario government. Warden McLean outlined the problem from a county council point of view. Prothero presented a brief history of the grants along with some specific concerns for 1981 The minister 'Pointed out there were some problems with the initial factor changes and assured Prothero and McLean that the amending formula will definitely stay in place for 1981. In reply to Prothero's specific concerns, the minister explained that the boards of education will not be faced with any form of "catch-up" because of the 1980 subsidy, that boards will be able to use 1979 factors if they are more favorable to the board, and that subsidies will be available for 1981. The ESIPSS girl's basketbali season is quickly drawing to an end as the midget and senior teams prepare for their last game in the regular season. Our Juniors have guaranteed themselves of a playoff position even though they lost their final game last Thursday against Brock. Penetang's squad came back from a 15 point deficit after half- time to close the gap to 4 points. The final score was 28-36. Jo-anne Belcourt was _ leading the Penetang scorers with 14 points. Brock's' seniors overpowered Peneta- ng's. 48-28. Barb Fit- zgerald scored 8 pts. for ESPSS. Our midget team also lost to Brock 10-34. Luanne Hook, Susan Gravelle and Anne McNamara _ were Penetang's high scorers. In volleyball action, Penetang played host to Twin Lakes and MSS. Our Midget Boy's played only one match, against Midland, and MSS eventually came out on top with scores of 13-15. 15-7 and 15-11. The ESPSS Junior Vollevball team lost to both Midland and Twin Lakes. Our Senior team was also defeated by Twin Lakes (4-15, 10-15) and MSS (15-13, 7-15, 11- 15). Our teams will be travelling to Brock on Wednesday, Nov. 5, and will spend the rest of the week preparing for the zone championships to be held the following Tuesday.
