A special feature of the evening was the presentation by three local elementary school students of poems and essays they had composed around a specific Remembrance Day theme. The three students, Darren Lediard (St. Ann's school), Cindy Wright, (Corpus Christi school) and Lise Magnan (St. Joseph's school), were the top three winners in the writing contest which is becoming a yearly event for area schools. Cheque Each of the students won a $50 cheque for their pieces; Darren Lediard's was a poem entitled "Why I Wear a Poppy", Cindy Wright's was an essay titled "The Significance of Remembrance Day" and Lise Magnan won her cheque for a poem in French titled "'Le Jour du Souvenir". The idea was originated a couple of-years ago by Legion comrade Vern Farrow who said Tuesday, the idee was to get the younger set thinking about the wars and particularly about the significance of Remembrance Day. The essay or poem format requires research by the students and therefore means they will learn something along the way. Farrow said the students presentations have continued entirely on the basis of their popularity and quality of work. : Penetang Legion dinner a big success 'a that select group rose from their seats, the audience rose with them in a standing ovation for the veterans of the "Great War".
