Wellington squeezed by the Perkies in the third period to win the game 5-4. Wellington players dominated play in the Turn about a must for Athletics Midland Athletics Intermediate A hockey club had a very rough weekend as they dropped two games by scores of 16-5 and 14-5. Friday night they travelled to Collingwood for their first loss and then repeated themselves as they went to Owen Sound. The recent losses put Athletics at an 11 losses in 11 games record and leaves them in the basement where they've been all season. Plans are in the works for changing the team around, with new players coming in and old ones going out. A new coach has been chosen in the person of Wayne King, Bob Monteith stepping down to maximize his ability as a player rather than a playing coach. Midland will play tonight in Midland Centennial Arena where they will host Port Elgin Sunoco's at 8:30 p.m. They will play again Sunday night at 8 p.m. against Georgetown Raiders in Midland Centennial Arena. Good things are expected of the new team once they get themselves on track. The first Wellington goal came at the 16:45 mark of the first when Brent Bowen scored on an assist from Mike Lane and Bill Thurlow. Perkinsfield could not buy a goal in that period and Wellington went into the second up 1-0. Again the Barrie team went on the offence as three more goals hit the scoreboard in_ the second. The first point of the period came at the 1:12 mark when Brent Bowen popped in his second of the game, this time assisted by Bill Thurlow and Bill Edgerton. Jim Miles was the next to score a point for Wellington, an unassisted effort at the nine minute' mark. Miles waited two full minutes before' he slipped another past the Perkinsfield goaltender, with the help of Bill Thurlow. Perkinsfield _ finally found the net when the team was down 4-0. Lefaive put the first of three goals in at the 12:18 point of the second on an assist from Ron Lalonde and_ Larry Cowen. The team then went into the third period of play down 4-1 on the scoreboard. Lefaive found the mark for his team at the 1:29 mark on- an unassisted effort and again al the 16:48 point. Wellington squeezes by Perkinsfield for win Ron Henderson. The score remained tied only 49 seconds though, as Wellington came out of their slump to score ona play by Tom Posie from Bill Thurlow and The Y. goal was assisted by Martin Quiglev. Perky Bill Smith managed to tie it up for his team at the 17:04 mark, on an assist from Greg Bowen. Point getters for the Wellington team _ in- cluded two goals from Brent Bowen: and Jim Miles and four assists from Bill Thurlow. Tom Posie scored only a single. but it was the game-winning point. Perkinsfield scorers included Lefaive with a hat-trick and Bill Smith with a single. Keegos big In their second developmental swim meet,: Midland's YMCA Keegos swim club fared very well. The meet took place in Port Elgin Sunday and featured teams from Midland, Barrie, Orillia and the home club, Port Elgin. Improvements were seen in most of Midland's swimmers with several taking top honours. Some of the first place finishers for Midland's club were Lynn Heins in 13 and 14 year old girls competition in 100 metre breaststroke, J. J. Gorman in 10 and under boys for 50 metre free style, 50 metre breaststroke and 50 metre butterfly and Alex Therrien in 11 and 12 boys with firsts in 100 metre breaststroke, 400 metre individual medley and 100 metre butterfly.
