'Pin chat'- bowling news, views by Dennis Brabant A qualifying round was held for the "Beat the Champ' television show which will commence taping in the last two weeks of November. Top qualifier was Don Bowen with a 953 score for 4 games. Don becomes the champ and will take on a series of challengers until he is defeated. The six bowlers who qualified to challenge the champ were Maurice Lapensee with 936, Albert Morin with 917, Paul Buttineau with 915, Don Lacroix with 907 and Peter Lacroix with 901. Cents put scare into Gravenhurst Midland Centennials Jr. C hockey club had Gravenhurst Indians on the ropes Wednesday night in Midland Cen- tennial Arena but the Indians managed to tie it up 8-8 to preserve their no loss record for the season. Gravenhurst took an early lead in the game with only 44 seconds expired on the clock. They then scored a second goal to take a two goal lead eight minutes later and a third goal with 53 seconds left in the first period. Midland only managed one shot on goal in the opening period. Midland got on the - scoreboard 37 seconds into the second period with a goal from Steve Dunn, team captain, on a power play. Andy Seeman and Frank Dance were awarded assists on the goal. ae Gravenhurst took a three goal lead once more with another goal two minutes after that but that was where the Centennials took over. They scored their second goal two minutes after Gravenhurst's last goal and brought the game back within two goals. Paul Hahn scored the goal, assists going to John Webb and- Ken Mugford. With only 13 minutes left to play in the second period, Webb scored a goal of his own, Hahn and Mugford combining talents to help out on the play. Midland ended the second period with a 4-3 deficit. Gravenhurst scored early in the third period to advance their lead to 5-3 but Midland closed Keegos novices swim Sunday Midland YMCA Keegos' counterparts, the novice team will be swimming in their first meet Sunday in Base Borden. 'There will be 18 novice keegos from Midland in competition that day against the other seven swimming teams in Huronia.. the gap again with a goal from Frank Dance, assisted by Paul Hahn moments later. In the next eight minutes, Gravenhurst scored two goals to bring their lead up to 7- 4. Midland Centennials dug in for the duration of play at this point as they realized they had to really work. Paul Hahn scored his second goal of the game at the half way mark of the final period with assists being handed to Ken Mugford and John Webb. A minute later, Mugford scored a goal with Hahn and Al Pumputis chalking up the assists. Andy Zurawski was the scorer for the goal that tied the game for Midland five minutes following their last goal with Frank Dance getting credit for the Parlour Games not playing around Midland Huronia Volleyball Club hosted a men's exhibition tournament Tuesday in Midland's YMCA. The winning team was the Parlour Games, one of three teams from the Midland club involved in the tour- nament. Play was on a 20 minute time limit with round robin play being the order of the day. Teams involved were Parlour Games, Mr. Submarine Sonix and Juvenile Boys, all three from Midland-Huronia's Volleyball Club. Also invited were teams from George Brown College in Toronto and Georgian College in Barrie. Steady pressure was applied by Gravenhurst as they saw their un- beaten streak going down in flames. With five seconds left in ithe game, Gravenhurst put the puck in the net to remain the only un- beaten team in the league. Despite Midland's slow start, they showed Gravenhurst how easy it is to lose a game as they made Gravenhurst settle for their first tie instead of a win. Gravenhurst outshot Midland 35-25 in the very exciting match up.
