Calendar profits pay for trips The students of Fesserton Public School have produced a calendar for the third year to sell to finance their school projects. Profits from last year's calendar have paid for 10 weeks of trips to the Midland YMCA _ for swimming. Calendar profits are also paying for next Tuesday's train ride for the class of 50 from Barrie to Orillia on the Ontario Northlander. Ontario Northlander is putting on a special coach for the First, Second and Third Graders who make up Fesserton Public School. Transportation and the history of Fesserton are two related subjects that the pupils are studying this year. Only four of the 40 boys and girls have been on a train. Fesserton owes its existence to the railroad. Canadian National Railways trains still go through the village, but the CP Rail tracks have been taken up. Fesserton is named after a friend of the builder of the Midland Railway, and Midland is named after the railway, says Fesserton teacher Paul Delaney. To help protect your Christmas gifts, here are a few tips. Find out the post office deadlines for mailing par- cels. and allow enough time to wrap them properly. Use wrapping paper and other decorations that will not add significantly to the weight and bulk of the package. Keep decorations flat. They're practical and less éxpensive than large bows which may get crushed in the mail. If vou must send heavy or fragile items such as ceramics, wrap them separately in tissue paper first. Then place them on a bed of crushed newspaper or excelsior so they don't touch one another. To prevent them from shifting, pack more crushed newspaper all around them. Parcels should be shipped in corrugated boxes large enough to cushion them. A box with separate com- partments is preferable if you put several gifts in one box. When sending cloth items. protect them further by placing the parcels in a plastic bag. Wrap all parcels securely, and tie them around all sides. Reinforce with knots where the cords intersect. Label your parcel clearly on two sides with the com- plete mailing and return after him: Hugel Avenue.
