Don Lawrence * Sports editor * Garage wins TKO There was a shoot out at Knight Haven Bowling Lanes last week in Penetanguishene when Dusome Garage and Desroches Bros. met in regular Penetanguishene Industrial Bowling League action. The two front runners in the league squared off against one another and when all was said and done, Dusome's had scored a TKO, taking two of three games for the night. Desroches Bros. want a rematch. The wins keep the Dusome Garage team on top of the league for the second straight week, but perhaps more importantly, the wins opened up a seven point lead over the faltering Desroches Bros. In third place, Lakeview Dairy had an op- portunity to close in on Desroches Bros. for second spot but were stopped cold in their play, losing all three of their games to remain six points back. There is a good battle place in the middle of the pack these days as well, with a mere seven points Sports Line In hockey action this weekend, Midland Centennials hockey club will face Gravenhurst Indians in Midland Centennial Arena at 8:30 p.m. Meanwhile, across the tracks in Penetanguishene, the Kings will be travelling to Huntsville to play against the Huskies. That game will get under way at 8:30 p.m. In the Midland Curling Club, an open jitney will be held and everyone is invited to come out and enjoy themselves in this non- competitive form of play. Action will start at seven p.m. and there will be a half hour instruction session prior to the jitney's beginning. There will be no charge for this event. Sunday night, Penetanguishene Kings and Midland Centennials will both be playing again but this time they will be facing each other. That game will start at 7:30 p.m. in Midland Centennial Arena. Midland Athletics Intermediate A hockey | separating the sixth to tenth place teams. Last week's seventh place bowlers, Fiberglass Sales had a rough night during their games, losing all three to slip back to 10th spot as the teams of Sarjeant Boys', Oak Ridge Boys' and Huronia Collision all advanced in the standings. Still pulling up the rear in the league standings are the Commodore Hotel and Legion 68. The lowly performance of these two outfits is somewhat misleading because both of the two dungeon dwellers have had good performances in the past and it seems their problem might be more one of consistency. Following the Nov. 18 play, the standings are as companion, John Sallows watches on in from behind as he waits to pump a little iron. ~ follows: W L Pts , Dusome Garage 28 59 Desroches Bros. 2211 52 Lakeview Dairy 19 14 46 Pilon Const. 18 15 41 . His by Ken St.Amant It is the feeling of the coaching staff that the Tyro division is probably the toughest of all. This is the case for several reasons: most have had three or four years of ex- perience and the gymnasts are extremely strong in relation to their body mass; few, if any, have completed their growth spurt and, as a result, do not have to deal with their changing body proportions. These girls must be under 14 years of age as of January ist of the competing season. The Competitive Tyros Crystal Manson: This five foot 2 inch gymnast is in Grade 8 at Corpus Christi Public School. Although Crystal lacks the experience some of the other gymnasts have, she will be representing the Hurons for her second season at the O.G.F. level. Beatriz Spencer: After a fairly suc- cessful season last year in the Argo category, Beatriz is presently attempting to improve her standings in this tougher level. She attends Grade 8 at Corpus Christi Public School. Lorraine Lacroix: Her improvement illustrates that hard work pays off. After a so-so season last year, Lorraine is determined to make a better showing this season. We are expecting this 12-year-old Monsignor Castex student to do much better this time around. Monica Hinrikus: She has been involved in gymnastics for four years. Although this is her fifth year, she will be competing at the O0.G.F. level for her second season. ee nee Nr ee, ie Ram cs al ea Bk age saa PENETANG -- MIDLAND GYM CLUB Gymnastics Corner This graceful gymnast is 13-years-old and attends Parkview Public School. d Lysa Marchand: This season will be Lysa's first exposure to 0.G.F. com- petition. With three year's experience in gymnastics behind her, Lysa should have a successful season. Presently, she is in Grade 8 at Corpus Christi School. Cindy Wright: Cindy's figure skating background is definitely helping Cindy's performance in gymnastics. We are hoping to send at least three and possibly four of them to the first qualifying meet in Toronto on Dec. 13.
