MSS boys' basketball under way Midland Secondary Sich oonv's? i bioy s? basketball program will get underway today when the senior, midget and junior boys' basketball teams will face teams from Elmvale and _ District High School. The three coaches, Chester Graham, Jeff Attwood and Dennis Hern all have good beginnings on com- petitive squads. Sr. Boys' Basketball Coach Chester Graham should have another strong senior boys' basketball team this vear. John Faragher, disappointed that the volleyball season is over. is the quick, big man on both boards. Whistling Glenn Haughton will supply the ballhandling and outside shooting skills. Both of these fine athletes have aspirations of playing for university ball. Scott Shaw, the quickest player on the team will lead the team offensively and defensively. The boards will also be controlled by six foot, three inch Al Delange who always needs a challenge to reach his potential. Ian Hunter, Dave Leduc and_ Steve | Friesen will contribute to this well disciplined, hustling team. Steve Frost, Kevin Cowden, Mark Pum- | putis and Gerry Richard will be the needed height and depth for the Marauders. Jr. Boys' Basketball Six foot, six inch Bill Middleton attended a summer basketball camp and coach Dennis Hern is very pleased with his development. Captain Wilson Cowan will backbone a tall forward corps. John Johnson will contribute ball handling skills and needed rebounding. Coach Hern is very pleased with the im- proved play of John Friesen and John Hudson at the guard position. Sloan Campbell is working hard at his game and Phil Whan shows improvement every day. Rob Leduc, Tim Platt, Drew Varley, Mac Speers and Gord Gaines are fighting it out at guard. Paul Northcott, Lloyd Pilon and Craig Pender will compete for the forward position. Coach Hern has a great group of young men. Midget Boys' Basketball Coach Jeff Attwood is starting his first year of coaching midget boys basketball. Jeff has an excellent background of playing the game at Laurentian University and as a former M.V.P. and Athlete of the Year at Midland Secondary School. Three starters from last vear's team are back bigger and stronger. Todd Gray, Darryl Burns and Duncan McCready will offer the needed experience to help the new people. Tim Grenier and Doug Woods will give the team height and muscle on the boards. Andy Franz, Tom Hook. Jim Edgar, Bev Southon, Bill Richard- son, Jason Marion, Bob Devine, Steve Bisson and Andrew Durr- wachter round out the first vear players who will represent the future of MSS boys' basketball program. Gignac shuts out Hindson John Gignac was chosen Athlete's Edge Player of the Week in Penetanguishene Recreational Hockey League action Sunday for his performance in net for Chalet Sports in which he recorded a shut out. Chalet Sports won the game against Hindson Marine 7-0 with Pat Duquette scoring two <SMFREE TURKEY with every purchase of: @ 5 tonnes of any €¢2balanced feed goals. Other scorers for Chalet Sports were Jules Duquette, Mark Duquette, Ken Labatt, Rick Duval and Steve Lalonde. In that game, Mark Duquette received two assists with Pat Duquette getting an assist as well. Other assists were recorded by Ken Labatt, Bill Klug and Larry Butson with three. In other action, Dock Lunch defeated B & J Gas Bar by a narrow Margin of 6-5. Rick Desjardins scored a hat trick for Dock Lunch with -Bill McIntosh, Larry Langley and . Tom Gignac all getting singles. Desjardins also got an assist. Goal getters for B & J Gas Bar were Aime Gignac with one, Rick Lefaive and Randy Leroux both with two. This week's game leaves Dock Lunch in first place with 16 points while Hindson Marine is in second with 10 points.
