Unfortunately, no English speaking residents showed up! It is difficult to understand why, when an opportunity to air opinions on such a crucial issue was presented, not one person from the English speaking community ap- peared. Surely there is enough s feeling and concern about the local issue to have warranted some sort of representation from the Anglophone segment of the population. The forum set up at the ACFO- convention was designed, not as an arena for confrontation, but instead to be an opportunity for a frank and honest exchange of views, for input from both sides of the debate and most importantly, for face to face "com- munication" between French and English citizens. It would appear the gesture by ACFO organizers to invite input from English people of Penetanguishene was a genuine and positive one and it is unfortunate that such input was not forthcoming. Must accept E_-- responsibility NOT LONG AGO, a Penetanguishene woman wrote a letter to Penetanguishene Arena, ParkS and ' Recreation Department, relating an in- cident in which somone en- tered an arena dressing room whilé her son was playing hockey, and literally destroyed his new jacket. Understandably, the woman was upset because the jacket was worth $35, but she also questioned whether anything could be done to prevent future such incidents. The board and arena of- ficials have since offered only sympathy and a _ recom- mendation that minor hockey officials arrange to have locks placed on dressing room doors when the rooms are unat- tended and their teams are using the facilities. The board is following this route in part because in the past, the arena has attempted to look after the locking up of dressing rooms, but problems arose with locating keys or people responsible when needed and it was felt minor hockey officials should look after their own affairs. This attitude by the arena parks and rec board may seem somewhat silly in light of the circumstances. It may very well be the arena has made efforts to prevent this type of incident in the past and perhaps it is time various hockey associations looked after their own security measures. However, the first line of responsibility must lie with the arena and its staff because it is after all their home turf! Parade chairman says thanks Dear Sir: On behalf of the Midland Civitan Club I would like to say thanks to the groups and individuals who worked so hard to make Saturday's annual Santa Claus Parade in Midland such a tremendous suc- cess. To have the opportunity to be the parade's chairman is an experience that will not be forgot- ten. There was one hitch. Last year we made arrangements to have treats at the Windrifter for 100 youngster and only half showed up. This year we lined up treats for 125 and more than twice that many showed up...some of the young people having to be turned away. : I apologize to Mr. Galt and the youngsters as this was very embarrassing for him, the youngsters and their parents. Please note, downtown merchants paid for the treats and the awards for which our club is very grateful. See you all next year. Dick Ivens Midland Civitan Club parade chairman Many thanks to Midland OPP Dear Sir: On Tuesday night, December 2, I had the occasion Running costly Dear Sir: In my recent attempt to gain a seat on the Simcoe County School Board as Ward 13 Trustee, I spent $457.75 on advertising. $176 on radio and $281.75 on newspaper ads. This serious attempt was made in order to secure _ safer transportation for our children, safer teachers for our-children and teachers dedicated to our children. I have been encouraged to remain in contention, So, if health and wealth do not fail me, I shall. to be stranded on County Road 25. The Midland detachment of the OPP were contacted, and made available all their expertise and assistance to me, as to towing and actually taking me back out to my vehicle. If it were not for them, I would probably still be out there, digging my car out. This situation brought home to me _ the terrific job that the OPP do in all their work. The little bit extra effort on a routine job makes all the difference when dealing with the public. To my mind, the OPP and, in particular, the Midland detachment, bring that extra effort to their jobs. Thank you again, to the OPP and the towing service, for remedying a touchy situation with great efficiency. James Robb Midland, Ont. Yours sincerely, Thanks Verne Rumney Dear Sir: At a recent Provincial Red Cross Conference in Toronto, Mrs. Esther Addison, Convenor for Red Cross Visiting and her assistant Mrs. Betty Grieve, were asked to give a report. Through your interest, we hope readers will become more familiar with the nursing homes and hospitals and will find the pleasure we find, in visiting. Thank you again.
