Warden's family settled in 1830 When we take a critical look at the newly-elected Warden of Simcoe County, John Fennell, we see a man who has contributed a good deal of his time and efforts to municipal government. Fennell's political career goes back approximately 14 years to his first and only election, that of township council in West Gwillimbury. He served a total of four years as a councillor before his acclamation to the position of Deputy-eeve. He remained in that position for three terms (six years) before progressing again by acclamation, to the head of his local council as Reeve. Four more years were spent there and he still holds that honour. Warden Fennell also holds extensive background on various committees, both as a member and also as chairmdn and- vice- chairman. Among a few of these committees are that of Roads, Finance and Administration for 1978 and 1979, the Warden's Com- mittee, the South Lake Simcoe Con- servation Authority as Vice-chairman and also as a member of the executive com- mittee working on the International Plowing Match 1981. The Warden, whose family settled in West Gwillimbury in 1830, works on his 200 acre mixed Century Farm on the eleventh concession of the township, along with one son. On his farm, he raises and breeds sheep and has won 65 ribbons for his efforts. He is also considered a qualified judge of sheep. The Fennell family consists of John, his wife Marietta and two daughters and three sons. All but one son were in attendance at Tuesday's meeting. Fennell was sworn into office at Midhurst, Tuesday afternoon following his election as Warden earlier in the day.
