Telethon coming The United Nations has declared 1981 to bea very special year--"'The International Year of Disabled Persons"'. In Ontario, the annual "'Weekend With The Stars" Telethon will offer each one of us an opportunity to reach out and touch a life. On the weekend of Jan. 17 and 18, the 54 member groups of the Ontario Federation for the Cerebral Palsied, in co-operation with the United Cerebral Palsy Association, will join forces with the 13 station CBC Television's Ontario Network and the ABC Television Network in presenting this 18% hour op- portunity for you to truly 'participate'. Hollywood stars will join with Ontario's best, including you, in assisting the disabled to raise needed funds for Good traditions never die The next time you pass under a sprig of mistletoe, keep in mind the age-old tradition of 'kiss and make up' beneath it. The pleasant "kissing under the mistletoe" custom has its roots in Scandanavian legend, for the powerful spirit of the mistletoe was revered as a cure for many ills and also as the plant of peace. The tradition of kissing and making up under the mistletoe came down through the centuries and was especially popular in England. In Victorian times, it played a stellar role in the festivities of the twelve days of Christmas. A sprig of mistletoe would be hung from a Wreath in the centre of the hall and any male guest could kiss any girl who "happened" to be standing under it. Super Saturday for shoppers Saturday turned out to be a super day for last- minute shoppers. Under clear blue skies they were out in full force with a certain brisk to their walk as_ they moved from store to store. With just a few days to go before Christmas they «ould be seen loaded down with large parcels. : Entire' families paraded from shop to shop in an effort to pick out "something nice for gram."' For almost 15 weekends in a row it has either rained or snowed on at least one or both days each weekend. However Saturday was a golden day...plenty of sun, lots of cloudless sky and happy people. What a super com- bination at any time of the year...but especially at Christmas. Not a creature Is stirring. The fire is glowing. The day we've awaited Is drawing near. As we join in the festivities of Christmas, we ex- tend our hearty thanks to the customers who have been so good to us during the past year. To all, a very merry holiday season and the happiest of New Years!
