Following the inaugural meeting of Coldwater council, village business was discussed at the first meeting of the new term. A motion was passed to retain the services of the Toronto law firm of Gardiner and Roberts to represent the village at the Supreme Court of Ontario. Council felt this action necessary because of the hearing into alleged conflict of ifterest charges against former reeve Earl Brandon and former councillor Ken Athron in regards to annexation. John Devine challenged council regarding this motion, stating he felt the action was supporting the developers. Council refused to rescind the motion. Devine also questioned council regarding the changeover from Ontario to Village hydro. Reeve Herb Stevens did not expect the conversion would be completed for ap- proximately a year. He indicated the rates will eventually be less costly for the residents of the annexed area. The appointment of councillors to serve on the various committees will be as follows - Roads - Iris Beach and Al Brand; Water - Garfield Dunlop and Beach; Hydro - Brand and Glady Dale; Property - Dale and Dunlop; Community Centre - Dunlop and the Reeve; Planning Board - Brand and. Beach; Protection to Persons and Property - Dale and Dunlop; Library - Reeve Herb Stevens; Finance - the council as a whole. Why not buy your Christmas tree from the Coldwater Lions this year?
