Novice's take Ayr Consolation On Monday, Dec. 29 the Elmvale Russell Hargrave Insurance Novice A's travelled to Ayr for their annual Novice Tournament and came away Consolation Champs. The first game saw Elmvale meet a very big and hard skating Langton team and go down in defeat by a score of 8-2. The only bright spots in this game were the two goals scored by Robby Conn. The second game saw a more spirited Elmvale team hit *the ice to win against St. George 7-0 Richard Pamerleau netted E'mvale's first goal at 9:48 assisted by S, CHAIRS MIRRORS, LAMPS, ed Lad eS ca <= © ce Lay = ce i -- | <> ) Greg Douglas and Todd Bannerman. Before the end of the first period Elmvale scored 3 more goals all by Robby Conn. The second period saw Elmvale manage several breakaways and near misses until 2:06 when Robby Conn rushed the length of the ice and was robbed by the goalie, who was then beaten by Todd Ban- nerman, who proved to be Johnny-on-the-spot. The second goal of this period was scored when Darren Haines received the puck at the blue line, passed to Jason Phillips in the corner who relayed it in front of the net to Steven & eFree Delivery Boone, who then scored. The third period saw Chris Jacobs score at the 6:36 mark assisted by Robby Conn and Jason Phillips. This game showed an Elmvale team who wanted to win and played a hard match taking the play to the opposition's end in all three periods' thus leaving very little for Elmvale Goaltender Craig Cochrane to do at the other end. The third game saw a very high spirited Elmvale team meet Rockton for the Con- solation Championship, and win the game 6 to 3. Elmvale opened the scoring at 8:31 with a Plenty of Free Parking ©(n the spot financing THERRIEN S neat goal by Robby Conn assisted by Chris Jacobs and Jeffrey Parent. The Elmvale squad started the second period with a goal by Robby Conn at 9:28. Both teams came out spitting nails in the third but no goals were scored until Steven Boone set Robby up with a neat pass for his fifth goal of the game at 7:54. At this point the team let up and Rockton sank: its first goal at 6:12. The local boys then came to life and held Rockton at bay until 3:35 when Rockton scored its second goal and 3:10 for its third goal. Bantams down Dundalk on their way to the top In a dramatic comeback the Elmvale Shaw's Bantams scored four goals in as many minutes to eliminate the Dundalk Bantams from the Wasaga Silver Stick tournament, and claim the Consolation Championship. Dundalk started the game strongly and took a two-to-one advantage into the third period. Although Elmvale played superbly, the only goal came from Kirton on passes from Bannerman and Con- nelly. Dundalk players brought momentary panic to the ranks of the Elmvale fans when they scored a goal in the first minute of third period play. Fortunately, Kirton and the Minesing Connection °(Banner- man and Chalmers) took exception. This trio, with help from a fired-up team, struck in rapid suc- cession for five unan- swered goals. This 6-4 win set the stage for a grand championship game between Alliston and Elmvale. After an earlier game resulted in an Alliston win in two periods of overtime, fans certainly looked forward to a bargain in entertainment value at Wasaga on Saturday, Jan. 3. Although the point- getters deserve special mention, there is a certain reluctance to stress individual per- formances in a game that required team perfection to claim victory. Individual totals include; Kirton 3, Bannerman 4, Connelly 2, Clement 1. Chalmers Pay curling 1, Norwood 1, R. Allen 1, and Miller 1. Congratulations to coach, Ernie Miller, manager Glen Bum- stead, and assistant Doug Kirton on the performance of the team. comes to Midland If you enjoy curling but vou do not wish to join a league, there is Pay as you Play curling in Midland.
