Fund-raiser goes over well by Eileen Hocken The euchre party, put on by the Mothers' Group to help raise monev for the Brownie and Girl Guide Organization last Tuesday, was a success. It was rather disappointing though, that not many of the mothers showed up. Prizes were awarded for Ladies' High Score, won by Vicki Stuckey, Second High, won by Marble Strong. The men's High was won by Wilton Howell, Second Unique classes continue bv Mrs. M. Gervais Upholstry Classes are being held in St. Mary's Church basement every Tuesday evening. This course will run for 10 weeks from 7 to 9 p.m. Each person is required to bring something to work on. Anyone wishing any further information on his class mav call Mrs. Mary Lou Mount at 534-7054. Mrs. Dorothy Rogers has returned home from spending over a month in Huronia District Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lidstone and John of Willowdale spent the weekend at their home here. Word was received in the village of the death in Brockvill Hospital on January 19 of Capt. Kenneth Crooke a former resident of the village. He was the only son of the late Mr. and High. by Don Calvert. Blanche Zelisney won for most Lone Hands, while the Booby Prize went to Irene Lapp, who laughingly refused to let anyone know her score. Three door prizes went to Doris Holden, Judy LeSaux, and Barb Watson. A nice lunch com- pleted the evenings entertainment. Port MeNicoll Girl Guides went snowshoeing at the Wye Marsh Saturday, Jan. 24. They were ac- companied by their Guiders (leaders) Jackie Legault, Rosemarie Rioux, and Marv Beausoleil, and three mothers who'd volunteered to give snowshoeing a try. The long walk ended with hot cups. of chocolate back in the Wildlife Centre, ap- preciated by girls and mothers alike. , To mark Week of Prayer for Christian Usnniitavas Bonar Presbyterian Church in Port MeNicoll held a service Wednesday, Jan, 21, at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Al Farthing, minister. of Bonar Church, invited Father Vincent Egan, priest of Sacred Heart Parish, to participate in the ser- vice. Everyone joined in the gathering hymn,- "The Lord's My Shepherd". Pauline Kelly sang two solos, "Come, Holy Spirit', and "Service". The service ended with the closing hymn, "The Church's One Foundation". Afterwards, thanks to a group of fine ladies, The Willing Workers of Bonar Church, refresh- ments were served in the basement hall of the Church. There are rumours going around Port MeNicoll that the roof of the Community Centre has caved in. Those rumours are completely false. The building in- spoector has gone through the whole building and found it to be structurally sound and in no need of major repairs. Senior citizens have a fun night, usually the last Thursday of each month. They play Euchre, and _ will welcome anyone who wants to participate. There are many prizes, which makes playing just that little bit more fun and ex- citing. The Euchre Partv is held at the Port MeNicoll Legion at 8 p.m. Admission is only $1.50 per person. On Saturday, Jan. 17, the Port McNicoll Beavers spent a fun time tobogganing at Little Lake Park in Midland. Exercise and play over. the Beavers were happv and ready to tuck into hot-dogs and hot chocolate. Port MeNicoll Cubs are planning a tob- boganing trip at the far end of Wye Marsh next Sunday. They will also be working on their Winter Cubbing Badge, which deals with identification of some trees, iden- tifying different birds, learning some winter first aid, etc. A few weeks ago, I mentioned in this paper that the Port MecNicoll Boy Scouts had visited Maclean-Hunter Studio to make a_= short program which would be aired on Cable 12 in the near future. The date has been fixed for 7 p.m. Wed- nesdav and 7:30 p.m. Thursday. It should be interesting to tune in to see what those boys have done.
