We should also like to extend our congratulations to their coach, Doug Leigh of Orillia. who has successfully coached these two skaters to the top. The sincere dedication and hard work of these two voung athletes is a shining example for all young people who aspire towards excellence in their particular fields of athletic endeavour. We are so fortunate in Orillia to have access to the coaching talents of Doug Leigh and his staff and are proud of the national sports exposure Doug and his athletes have bestowed upon our fair city. Benefit dance was a success Dear Sir: A benefit dance was held Jan. 24 at the Baxter Community Centre, for Clem and Vivian Hodgins, who lost their home to a fire in Waubaushene early January. This dance was a success, due to a sell-out crowd. An exact amount is not known at this time, but over $3,000 was raised. The Waubaushene Community Organization would like at this time to thank everyone who so gracefully donated to this function. Especially Baxter Community Centre who donated the hall, the Jazzman and Jim Stubbins DJ for their really great entertainment, Penetang Bottling who supplied all the mixes, Penetang Coach Lines for the bus service from Waubaushene to the dance. Draw prizes donated by Waubaushene Inn, Georgian Beauty Salon, and 2 others unmentionable. We also would like to mention these merchants for their contributions, Victoria Harbour Dairy, Thierrans Auto Body, Scott Printing, Hooks. Waub. store, Huronia Office Supplies, Royal Cdn. The community's seventh annual Mini Bonhomme, Feb. 6-8 should be the biggest and best winter carnival ever held in the Har- bour. Actually school kids in Grades 6 through 8 officially kick off the "do" with a day-long Olympics from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday. Friday night an opening ceremony and crowning of carnival king and queen will be followed by a torchlight parade and tree burning at the ball park and then Heavy damage reported A tractor-trailer driver from Penetanguishene -- sur- vived the ride of his life Monday morning after the truck he was driving jack-knifed on Highway 27 south of Wyebridge. Midland OPP say the vehicle Wilfred Lalonde, 61, was driving apparently skidded on the ice-covered high- wav. slammed into nine guide posts. before coming to rest. The tractor sustained $12.000 damage while the trailer, according to OPP. suffered $1,000 damage. The MTC guide posts sustained $270 damage. The driver wasn't hurt in the mishap. No charges were laid. The truck was owned by Patric Auto Lines, Stouffville. Midlanders charged by town police Two Midland men have been charged with the theft of an automobile from outside the Bayshore Lanes bowling alley in the early hours of last Thursday. Laverne Contois, 33, of Sixth Street, and Arthur Alderson, 29, of Lindsay Street, ap- peared in provincial court Monday. Their case was adjourned until Mar. 16. Elmvale OPP recovered the car at 9 p.m. last Thursday. Howard Street resident Henry Woz- niak. 32, has been charged with failing to yield subsequent to a collision Friday. He was westbound on Elizabeth Street. The other driver, Rose Lee, 52, of Scott Street. was southbound on Midland Avenue. Time of the collision was 1:10 p.m. Bruce Scharf, 23, of Midland, was charged last Friday evening with mischief to public property after a toilet seat in a town police cell was ripped from the toilet and partially burned. Scharf is also charged with being intoxicated in a public place. it's weekend of fun and excitement. Saturday and Sunday there will be plenty of things to do and see with events that will range from cross country ski and snowmobile races to a crooked bat baseball game and a host of dances in the evening. Sunday's program will feature more of the same plus motorcycle races. a log sawing contest, etc. The annual Mini Mini Bonhomme ts all set to go Bonhomme in Victoria Harbour doesn't just happen. This weekend's big event has been months in the planning stage and weather permitting should be a real record-setter as far as attendance is con- cerned.
