The 4-H pledge was said and the election of officers began and they are as follows: President - Karen French, Vice President - Teresa Miller, Secretary - Rotating members, Press Secretary - Rotating members, Phoning Committee - Cheryl French. The name of our club was left until the second meeting and the meetings will be held on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. -11:30a.m. at Mrs. Leonards. We discussed the date of Achievement Day and our skit, '"The Case of the Uneven Hem". Mrs. Leonard read pages 9-11 and we filled in the "Sewing Ability" _. questionnaire. We went this particular print by the Midland class at his retirement party held in the Midland Civic Centre Saturday. Obituary Ross John Pren tice A funeral service for Ross John Prentice, a highly regarded member of the Midland Athletics hockey club, was held on Jan. 21, 1981. in Nicholls Funeral Home. Midland. Rev. Charles Carter of- ficiated. Interment is to be in Union Cemetery, Victoria Harbour. Mr. Prentice was injured in a traffic accident on January 17, 1981. on Highway 69, 15 miles south of Parry Sound. Ontario. He died the same day in St. Michael's _ Hospital, Toronto. He was 22. The young man was an employee of RCA and living in Victoria Harbour. He was single. He was a_ baseball player as well as a hockey player. He wasa member of the Midland Athenian Raiders baseball club. Mr. Prentice was a graduate of Midland Secondary School. He leaves his parents, Alvin and Marilyn Prentice, and two sisters, Lori Larmand (nee .Prentice) and Carla Prentice. The remainder of the reading section was read by various members. The leaders passed around samples of interfacing, patterns and fabrics. The leaders also volunteered to buy the fabric for our samples, the meeting then closed till next week. Card party winners of last Friday night were: Men's High - Cecil Kells, Men's Low - G. Ellis, Ladies' High - Marie Miller. Ladies' Low - Irene Herbert, and the Door Prize went to A. Gauthier, the next card party is Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. at the Community Centre. Several from the community attended the Elmvale Figure Skating Club dance that was held in Elmvale on Saturday evening. A good time was had by all. Last week the Recreation Committee held their annual election of -- officers meeting. - Supervising the election was Don Bell. from Flos Township, who was Chairman of the Committee of Management. Other members of the Committee of Management were Kay Chambers from Tay Township, John Butler from Tiny Township, and Ingram Amos from Medonte Township. Election of Officers as follows: Chairman - Douglas R. Truax; Vice Chairman - Paul Eplette; Secretary - Doris Reynolds; Treasurer - Hilda Sibthorpe; Centre Committee - Oonah Currv, Frances Orr; Social Committee - Ann Truax, Kay Eplette, Phillis Truax; Park Committee - Ken Lockhart, £irvre Reynolds, Murray Lockhart; Publicity - Cindy Lockhart; Newsletter - Hilda Sibthorpe, Cindy Lockhart. Even though some people were not able to be there, they still volunteered to help with a certain committee. The committees do the best they can to make your recreation better, but remember in order to make things better, we need your support. Don't forget the recreation dance coming up this Satur- day. Feb. 7 from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. at the Elmvale Community Hall. The band is Northern Edition, cost is $4 per person and there is a lunch served _af- terwards. For tickets call 322-2939 or 322-2120. Township of Tay Roads Department and the Township of Tay Fire Department held a broomball game down at our rink on Sunday afternoon. The score ended in the last seven seconds of the game with the Roads Dept. going ahead 10-9. Those that were there cheered the game on despite the snow blowing around. The second meeting of the Waverley 4H was held on Sat., Jan. 31 at Mrs. Leonards. Opened with the 4H pledge and Teresa Miller read the minutes from meeting No. 1. Teresa then led the Roll Call and the Home Assignments. No decision was made about a club name, but are working on it. Mrs. Leonard read Meeting II to us and explained it. We played the game called "Name the Parts of a Sewing Machine". The girls split up into pairs and pinned the pattern pieces on to each to see if any alterations were required. At 11:30 a.m. six members and two leaders closed the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Layeott and Kelly visited with some relations of Mrs. Laycotts, Mr. and Mrs. Edwards and Mr. and Mrs. Stephens in Guelph over the weekend.
