Rumney team on a streak, Quesnelle closing gap Debbie Rumney of St. Margaret's Bowling League is on a streak that has seen her win seven points every week since Jan. 5 Their play night in Bayshore Lanes in Midland proved they were earning their points as they bowled over a 1,200 total for the team. Rumney's team has now won 14 games and lost only one game for 33 points. Theresa Quesnelle is not in pursuit though with 11 wins~and four losses with 26 points while Aggie Burgess has nine-wins and six losses for 22 points in third. June Burtch is next with nine wins and six losses for 11 losses for 21 points and Brenda Widdis is close behind her with eight wins and Peewees win two shutout games Midland Civitans Major Peewees took two games this past week over Base Borden, Tim Copeland registering a shutout Wednesday in Midland Centennial Arena and_ Blaine Dusome also getting a shutout Friday night in Base Borden. Friday, Midland blanked Base Borden 4- 0, their first goal coming eight minutes into the first period from Peter Lalonde with assists going to Chris Duck- worth and Bruce Busch. The second period in that game was scoreless but in the third period, Midland came out with all guns_ blazing, dumping three goals in the net in the final six minutes of play. Duckworth scored unassisted for Midland's first goal of that period, with Archie Merides getting the next goal. James Savage assisting on the play. Pat Marchand counted for the last goal Midland scored, that goal coming with 55 seconds left to play in the game. Kevin Marchildon and Jamie Cadeau assisted on the final goal of the game. Tim Copeland recorded the shutout for Rough play dotted Olympia win Olympia _ Sports downed Athenian Flyers 8-3 in Midland Recreation Hockey Monday night in a rough and ready game in which there were 17 minors, one major and one misconduct handed out. Earl Cousineau and Rick Lefaive each scored two goals for Olympia Sports while Jim Vaillancourt, Rick Duval. Willard Cadeau and Terry Archer all scored single markers for Olympia Sports. Scoring for Athenian Flyers were Gary Buttineau, Ken Edgar and Don Lefaive. Duggan's Polar Kings won their match with Performance Motor Sports 10-4, Dave Gamma scoring a hat trick for the winning team. Mike Laurin and Gary Preston both scored double markers for 'C Plus', 'Alpine League' both take top honours For the first time in a long time, Midland's "C Plus" Ski Team and the Midland "Alpine League"' both won their weekend races. at Midland's Mountain View Ski Hills. It has usually been that one or the other would win but this time, they both took top honours. Midland "C Plus" skiers, aged 7-13 years old defeated Kawartha Peaks 96-78, Steven Thorpe taking first place for the Midland team. Saturday. Midland's Former Keego wins five medals A former member ot the Keegos now living in London, Ontario, won four gold medals and one silver medal in an Ontario championship swim meet held in Brantford, Ontario, on the weekend. Tania Corbett, 10, was a member of the local swimming club that operates out of the Midland Family YMCA, when her family moved to London two years ago. She now swims with a London swim- ming club. "'Alpine League", downed Hidden Valley 95-5-88.5 Sunday. Racers for Midland took top spots again in their age division with Tim Leitch claiming first. Kevin Cowden in second, Greg Schuh in third. Chris Heath in fourth, Matthew Leitch in sixth, Mark Pinkney in eighth and Mina Tesseris in ninth. The girls on the team were Stacey Leitch in third and Andrean Brennan in sixth. Duggan's with singles coming from Mike Huffman, Tom Borsa and George Adams. Hebner's Taxi won their game against Roadrunners, 7-3, Earl Rothery getting two goals and Gord Paul scoring-a single marker for the Roadrunners. The wins put the three top teams two points ahead of last week's total but doesn't change the standings any as Olympia Sports maintains first with 30 points. Hebner's Taxi has second with 25 points and Duggan's Polar Kings have 24 points for third place. Athenian Flyers, Performance Motor Sports and Roadrunners stay in fourth, fifth and sixth spots with 18, 11 and 6 points respec- tively. Next Monday's action will see Roadrunners take on Olympia Sports at 8 p.m., Duggan's Polar Kings battle Hebner's Taxi at 9:15 p.m. and Athenian Flyers face off against Performance Motor Sports at 10:30 p.m. favour. loss record. losses. Morton ties for third in Curling Finals The Midland rink of Lynn Morton has certainly had better days than those it spent at Port Arthur Curling Club competing in the All-Ontario Ladies' Curling Finals Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Morton's rink began the competition off right with two wins, the first coming Monday morning 9-4 over Humber Highland in 10 ends and their second win 7-6 over Thunder Bay that afternoon in 10 ends. Everything began to go sour the next day though as Morton's rink lost to Sudbury 9-3 in 10 ends of play and also dropped a second game the same day to Ottawa. But the real drubbing came for Morton's rink Wednesday as they were forced to throw in the towel at the end of the eighth end after a 13-2 deficit had built up in St. Catherine's Sudbury won the trip to Newfoundland Feb. 23 where they will compete in the Lassie Canadian Finals, finishing with a five win, no St. Catherines was second with three wins and two losses while Morton finished in a three way tie for third place with Ottawa and Humber Highland with two wins and three Morton's rink has had some good times this season as well as some bad and they should be congratulated on their successful season. In the second game Friday night in Base Borden, Midland won 5- 0 with Blaine Dusome getting credit for the shutout. Dusome was actually hurt with two minutes left in the game and replaced by Tim Copeland but for all intensive purposes, it was Dusome_ who earned the shutout. Scoring for Midland were Pat Marchand and Danny Sallow with two goals apiece, Eddie Richardson scoring the fifth goal for Midland. Getting assists for Midland were David Bressette, Bruce Busch, Jim Norton, Jamie Cadeau and Danny Sallows. Midland scored four goals in the final period, their first coming early in the second period. Base Borden's coach was ejected from the game with two minutes of play left in the second period for verbal abuse directed at the referee and that gave Midland the control of the game from then on. seven losses for 19 points. Rick Newman and his wife Audrey occupy the next two spots with 16 points and 14 points respectively. Rick Laurin, Brenda Wright and Janet Duquette are in the last three spots with 11, seven and six points in that order. Jim Burtch maintains his hold on_ high average, high single and high triple for men, his high average sitting at 207 which is down one pin from last week's total of 208. His high average is being threatened though by Rick Taylor with 206 and John Dyett with 204. Burtch's high single is safe for the meantime though with 323 and his high triple of 798 is standing after this week's action. Alva Campbell has the high average for ladies at 198, one pin below last week's total and she is facing some competition in Ann Deguire and Stella Wright who both have a 194 average. Campbell also holds the ladies' high single at 311 while Deguire has the ladies' high triple at 722. High scores for this week were numerous but the outstanding scores were bowled by John Bridges with a 304 for men's high single, John Dyett with a high triple of 714, Brenda Widdis with a 307 single and Stella Wright with a 691 triple. All four received a bowling glass for those totals. Dock Lunch players dominate Dock Lunch of Penetanguishene Recreational Hockey have clinched the top spot in that league and with good reason. Seven of the top 10 scorers in the league are on Dock Lunch, the top four spots taken by Dock Lunch players. They are Ken Edgar, Bill McIntosh, Larry Langley and Ron Lalonde. Rick Desjardin, Larry Cowan and Paul Loughran of Dock Lunch take up sixth, seventh and eighth spots in that order.
