Port McNicoll council makes effort to get $14 million motel-boatel by Eileen Hocken Port MeNicoll Council has approached Annedol Investments Ltd. about the $14 million' project the company had previously planned for the town of Midland. Reeve John Moreau said he and village clerk Alex Hancox are at- tempting to meet with the Annedol representative to plead their case. Port MeNicoll would be a suitable site for the convention centre. According to Reeve Moreau, "We have all the necessary facilities to accommodate the hotel. We have room on Paradise Point Road. There are several small local marinas, and I believe it will be possible to service the development." Port MeNicoll will make an effort to acquire the 600-unit motel convention centre because, as Reeve Moreau puts it, '"'We can certainly accommodate the centre, and it would put us on the map. This type of development would pick us right up and could do nothing but upgrade the village.' The benefits of such a project are numerous. Tax revenue for one, plus a chance of part- time or steady em- ployment for some of our residents. A Procedures By-Law is now in force in the village of Port 'MeNicoll. Persons with problems or enquiries who wish to address the Council should see the . village clerk, Alex Hancox, ahead of time if - possible, to state the nature of the problem and of their wish to address the Council at the next meeting. This will give members of the Council a chance to familiarize themselves with the nature of the problem, and either resolve it before the next meeting or at least be able to communicate the steps that have been taken in an effort to help resolve that particular trouble. In a meeting Feb.5a decision was made to dissolve the present Port McNicoll Recreation Committee, and form instead, a Recreation Board consisting of seven members. Positions will be advertized in this paper, also the Midland Free Press. Port MeNicoll is looking for many ap- plicants.
