ARC floor hockey team puts on good show in California Midland Adult Rehabilitation Center's floor hockey team played well in a tour- nament held in San Diego, California last week, finishing fourth in a pool of seven teams from across North America. Play was at Balboa Park in San Diego and the Midland Team was well represented by the 15 man team in their six games played. This was the fourth annual tournament of this type but it was the first time the ARC team had ever' entered something this big. An additional factor in their incredible success was that they were the only Canadian team jentered in the com- petition. While staying in California, the team members were housed at the naval training center in San Diego. The players paid for the trip themselves by working overtime to earn the extra money and they also received some support from the Ontario Special Olympics committee. The entire trip cost the group about $9,000. Team coach, Paul McDonald. said that the trip was very wor- thwhile and the team played very hard, maybe because they were the only Canadian team at the tournament. But the trip wasn't all work for the players as they had time for relaxation. While in California, the players were across the border in Mexico for a day and they visited Universal studios, Seaworld and Disneyland. According to McDonald, though, the highlight of their trip was on the plane when they met former Iranian hostage, Richard Morfield who was delighted to have met some Canadians. © A large press following was in at- tendance for this meet. The ARC team played Costa Mesa in their first game in which they claimed a 5-4 win but fell short in their second game to San Diego 6-4. They recovered in the third game by defeating Los Angeles 6-4 and then lost a squeaker 5-4 to Penetanguishene Bantams play deciding game Friday It will all come down to the final deciding game Friday night in Base Borden to see who will advance onto further playoff series between Penetangui- shene Bantam All-Stars and Base Borden.
