They hold tight to their Mother's hand, or walk a few inches from her side. It's called Pre-school Health Screening Clinic, but to them, its "Starting School', and they have been waiting all their lives for this. School is a very big place. with a great many people, grown-ups and children, all bustling and busy. There are bells that ring. gusts of cold air when doors are opened. The four year old sees a kaleidescope of space, colours and faces. But Mother is there beside him, and people are friendly. He has 'An Appointment"'. This is his own special time. It is all over in 45 minutes. He is on his way out of the big doors with a band-aid on his finger, and a crayoned picture to show Dad. He has a feeling that he has behaved well, but school certainly didn't last long! The Pre-schoo! Health Screening Clinics have been conducted by the Nurses of the Simcoe County District Health Unit for the past several years. About 50 per cent of school starters have been seen, and they would like to see every child who is to enter kindergarten in Sep- tember. The purpose of the clinic is to detect and correct health problems as early as possible, so that the child's learning will not be impeded. Children born in 1976 are eligible for the clinics. Parents can arrange an appointment by phoning the Health Unit at 526-9325. merchants have' numerous one-act plays in which he both acted and directed.
