oye ame jae Bowlers getting into the swing of things at Lanes by Vicki Hinnells Equally important as indoor activity and creative programs, are the outings at Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene. One such outing is bowling. Our team of seven bowlers, meets every Tuesday at Knight Haven Lanes in Penetanguishene. After the first game it was a unanimous decision that, yes, it was certainly different than carpet bowling back at the Manor! Those were definitely long alleys, and those bowling balls were heavy! Not to be discouraged though, the ladies and gentlemen -- continued practising and _ the results are showing. The first few weeks showed scores of 30's and 40's, but they quickly rose to 70's and 80's. Those' residents, limited to the use of one hand, began to "find the spot'. The competitive spirit lit a small fire and the fight for top score was on. Two residents in wheelchairs shared, back and forth, the top score for the week. Not to be denied, was Fred Daigle. He now holds the top score of 139. Of course, the ladies are always in there pitching, and Winnie Gammon and Laura St.Amant are definitely in the running. With the obvious benefits of physical exercise, the walking, lifting and rolling has paid off. Our bowlers have Rumneys set up display By Wilhemene Cameron On February 9, about 60 attended the meeting which was_ presided over by _ Ignatius O'Halloran and O Canada was sung. We gave a_ hearty welcome to a_ visitor Lily Eady. Elsie Dean has been on the sick list but should be back soon. Mr. Frank Rumney is a very busy gentleman these days. He and his wife set up a grand display of his work for us to see. There were various wall hangings and purses made of wool craft and needlepoint. It was decided to send our President to the World Convention in Toronto in May. There may be others to go also. Cecil French has resigned from being on the program Committee due to ill health so Emily Finlay will help Leulla Scott. The winners in the games are as follows: Euchre - May Addison and Bill Langman; Bridge - Marietta Player and Frank Rumney and Cribbage - Stuart Palmer and Gordon Strath. started with one game per week, but could easily handle two or three, if time permitted. This week, the bowlers have a little more than the usual incentive to bowl a high score. Four of our bowlers, Fred Thompson, Fred Daigle, Leo Furnier and Gordon Henderson, have decided to bowl in the Bow] for Millions, in aid of the Big Brothers Association. Tuesday, February 10, was the date decided upon. Support from staff and friends in the way of sponsors was received and. ap- preciated. The fellows -- ap- proached the game with confidence and a desire to help the cause and it definitely paid off. The scores were: Leo Furnier 99, Fred Daigle 162, Fred Thompson 90, and Gordon Henderson 91. Georgian Manor is very proud of their efforts and their con- tribution to the Big Brothers. Other scores for the day were Laura St.Amant, with her best score of 95. Congratulations to all! Georgian Manor Bowlers continue to bowl every Tuesday morning, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. If anyone would care to join us, please come along any Tuesday. Also. a reminder of the meeting planned for Monday March 2, at the Manor. Starting time is 7 p.m. and we are looking for interested ladies and gentlemen, willing to assist in the organization of a Home Auxilliary. Please, bring a friend! Georgian Manor, Home for the Aged, is a progressive home. We have many varied programs and_ the community is always encouraged to come in, visit and enjoy! ie a rt 'S president.
