Dance the works by Eileen Hocken Port McNicol} Recreation is putting on another dance Friday, March 6, for our young people 10 to 17, at Port MeNicoll Legion Hall from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $1 per person. The dance will be well chaperoned and there will be a door prize and many spot dances. The youngsters who attend these dances seem to really enjoy them- selves, so if you haven't been yet, make it a point to do so this week. Last Wednesday was an exciting night for our Port MeNicoll Cubs. It was apparent each boy had worked very hard on his Kub-Kar, whit- tling. sanding and painting, using decals to the best advantage. Cars were proudly displayed as the judges looked over each one before selecting the best designs. Winner of the best designed Kub-Kar made entirely by a boy, was Steven Roth. The prize for best designed car made by a boy with the help of an adult went to Jason Leclair. Heat Save helpers Virgina Lunnie of Midland, right, flanked by her sons, Sean on her right and Doug on her left talks to Dolores Currie of Midland, a worker at the Heat Save program presently in operation in Midland. Kub-Kars were then weighed in. Weight could not exceed five ounces. Afterwards the race began, _par- ticipants and spectators cheering on _ their favourite speedsters. Mark Burrage was the lucky winner of the race. Port MecNicoll Brownies went to Wye Marsh Feb. 24, for a nature walk as part of their program for their Observers Badge. Later on, if the weather co- operates, the Brownies will go snowshoeing. Senior Citizens Club had their monthly Euchre Party last Thursday at the Legion. We are happy to report a very good attendance as usual, almost 90 people _ participating. Adelle Deshane was the lucky Door Prize winner. Marie Miller had the Ladies High score of 84. Jim Forrester had the Men's with a score of 74. Most Lone Hands was won by Jim Forrester who had six lone hands during the course of the evening. Booby prizes went to Berlie McDamara who Sean and Doug seemed very interested in the project as well which goes to prove you're never too young to learn. Special occasion by Mrs. M. Gervais Brownies, Guides and Beavers in Victoria Harbour joined thousands of _ Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world in celebrating Feb. 22, "Thinking Day" by attending St. John's United Church for a ceremony of flag presentation and worship. Girl Scout Week, Feb. 16-22 saw Brownies, Guides and Beavers participating in the Craft and Program Display at Huronia Mall in Midland. The Girl Guide Cookie Slow week for OPP Elmvale OPP reported a relatively quiet week has gone by with break-ins being the most prevalent occurrence. A break-in occurred at the cottage of A. E. Willard of Balm Beach, with nothing reported stolen and a charge of trespass to hunt was laid against a Toronto man. According to OPP Jose Araujo was charged after he shot a rabbit on Flos Concession 2) An Elmvale residence was broken into and ransacked last Saturday but no theft was reported say local police. The residence belonged to Phillip Coleman of Elmvale. Another Elmvale break-in took place Sunday at the home of Ronald Richardson of Elmvale. Again nothing was reported stolen. Mark Miller Son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Miller, John Street. Waubaushene, received the Georgian Bay Regional Group of Ontario Land Surveyors Award during the Georgian College Annual Awards Day ceremony held in Owen Sound on Feb. 12. He is enrolled in the Survey Technician I Program and is one of 158 Georgian students who received an award. He is a graduate of Midland Secondary School. He is a very active person in our com- munity, sponsoring ball games for our youngsters, donating his time each Sunday to make breakfast at the Hunters and Anglers Club for the wood- cutters, doing many small acts of kindness for some of our local residents. As any generous person, Lyall would neither want nor ap- preciate anyone Scottish festival night set for Barrie Huronia Symphony, in the second of its series concerts will present a Scottish Festival Night, March 8. Barrie and District Pipes and Drums, as guest of the Symphony, will present a program that will evoke a breath of Scotland. The concert will begin with the orchestra playing The Hebrides Overture, followed by a special arrangement of Robert Burn's - Ye Banks and Braes O'Bonnie Doon. Barrie and District Pipes and Drums will enter the theatre playing Scotland the Brave. Pipe Major Bob Haley and Drum Major Gerry Mountford will lead the group of 15 musicians in many Scottish tunes which they will play in combination with the symphony orchestra. Such favorites as Amazing Grace, Road to the Isles. Bonnie Dundee and many more will be played. Highland dancing will round out the program with a fling and a sword dance by four of the regular group of dancers who appear with the band. The concert will be held Sunday at 8:15 p.m. at Georgian College Theatre, Barrie. Tickets will be available at the box office prior to the concert or by phoning 487-3628 or 728-3629. Mrs. Rita McAvoy received word last week of the death of her only brother Mr. Armos Cloutier of Toronto. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cloutier of this village. He was married to Miss Olive Cadeau also of the village who survives him as well as three sons and a daughter-in- law and his sister Mrs. McAvoy. Attending the funeral on Tuesday 655 Vindin St. Margaret Moreau of Midland. There was a _ good attendance at the Euchre Party organized by the Parks and Recreation Committee and held in St. John's Church Hall on Friday evening. Our Commissioner of Roads, Leo Copeland and village clerk, Alex Hancox, attended a three-day Ontario Good Roads' Convention at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto last week. The men were able to learn how the grant structure was going and that there weren't going to be too many funds released this year. It was the first time Leo Copeland attended a Good Roads' Con- vention and he said he quite enjoyed it. He believes next year, when the elections are all over, they will be able to get much more information than they did this year. Condolences' are extended to the family and friends of- Mrs. Marcelline' King, Wardell Street, Port MeNicoll who passed away last week. Her funeral Mass took place at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Sacred Heart Church in Port MeNicoll. Condolences are also extended to the family and friends of Mr. John Reedy of Port McNicoll who passed away Saturday. His funeral Mass took place at Sacred Heart Church, Port MecNicoll, yesterday morning. Mr. Reedy was a Post- master in our village for many years. We were sorry to hear of his passing. We are pleased to hear that Lenny Leitch is back home again after a fairly lengthy stay in hospital following a car accident in which Lenny suffered a broken hip and two broken legs.
