| Rec board officials appointed-- by Eileen Hocken At a council meeting held Tuesday, March 10, seven Port MeNicoll residents were ap- pointed to the new Recreation Board: Gwen Duval, Doug Duncan, Donna Jackson, George Hill, Judy Juneau, Elsa Kovacs and Ernie Spiess. Councillor Ross Cameron is in charge of this Recreation Board. According to him, several activities are already being con- sidered for our Port MeNicoll youths. We wish the new members of our Recreation Board the best of luck in their future endeavours and hope they get the sup- port they need from our villagers. Port MecNicoll Library Board held their meeting March 11 at the Municipal Office. The meeting went well, but no new _ business came up. However, the new Director of Simcoe County Library, Mr. Morris Allan, expressed a wish to attend the next meeting of the Library Board. Please note that the Library will be closed Friday, March 20 and Monday, March 23. There is to be a book exchange with the Simcoe County Book- mobile. The Library Board will be meeting again April 8 at 8 p.m. at the Municipal Office. This is open to the public. A Mothers' Group meeting took place in the basement of Bonar Church March 11. The "end of the year' trip was decided on by the mothers'. present, although the destination is to be kept secret from the Brownies and Girl Guides. The Leaders wish to surprise the girls. The Euchre Party, put on by the Mothers' Group Monday night was a huge success, with 17 tables occupied by eager card players. Prize The Women's High Score was 80 points, with the prize going to Linda Kennedy. Brian Waaser won the Men's High with a score of 74. Della DesRochers had 6 lone hands and won the prize for that. W. prize winner was Beth Hilliard (first time Beth has played Euchre) with a score of 40. I attended this Euchre Party and happened to be the lucky first Door Prize winner of a lovely St. Patrick's Day cake. My four children and three nephews whom I babysit were thrilled about that and thoroughly enjoyed the unexpected treat. The Mothers' Group Committee wishes to express their thanks to all the people who came out in support of this event. Thanks also to the mothers who con- tributed sandwiches and sweets, and donated prizes for the Euchre night. Four Girl Guides, Kim Burrage, Kim Legault, Rennee Rioux, and Sandra Dorion were at the Euchre Party to pass out cups of tea or coffee to the card players and to help put out the refreshments. They did a very good job and are to be com- plimented on their good! manners and help- fulness. Port MecNicoll Cubs went on a one-and-a-half hour tour aboard the Algosen Sunday, March 15. Captain Elmer Strong conducted the tour. He showed the boys through the engine room, mess and galley, among other things. Outing The boys really ap- preciated this exciting outing. Our thanks to Captain Strong for making it possible. Wednesday _night's meeting will take place in a Lafontaine Sugar Bush. The First Lafontaine Cub pack have invited our boys to this special event. There will be hotdogs for the boys. and of course, maple syrup taffy. A visit to a Sugar Bush would not be complete without this special treat. The Cub-a-Ree Snow Frolics planned for the month of March had to be cancelled because - what else? - lack of snow. Not to worry though, the Snow Frolics are merely postponed until December. A--meeting of the newly organized Youth Club is to take place tomorrow night, March 19 at 7 p.m. at Port McNicoll Public School. Mr. Pat Armstrong, who is trying to help the kids organize this club, wishes to invite the parents to attend this meeting with -- their children. This way, they will be able to get first- hand information about what is happening with this club. Congratulations to Bill Scott, winner of the Chess Tournament for 1981. Bill and David Schult played off this week and Bill emerged the winner. Our Port McNicoll Senior Boys won the County' Basketball Championship last Saturday at a tour- nament held at Collingwood Collegiate Institute. They won the first three games to put them in the final and championship game against Collingwood Senior Public School. On Wednesday, they participated in the Huronia Centennial Invitational Tourna- ment held at Elmvale and once again emerged the champions. Congratulations, boys. Our Junior Boys Basketball Team has also been busy this past week. They have played three games and won all of their games - teams played have _ been Victoria Harbour twice, Gord Williams, a 100 Huntley and Corpus Christi. The Youth Dance put on by Port MeNicoll Recreation on March 6, was another success. About 90 kids attended and some went home with prizes. Record An L.P. record was won by Tina King. Spot prizes -- 45 r.p.m. records went to Shelly Ladouceur, Kim Quesnelle, Elvir Henderson, Heather Cairns, Shannon Lawrence, Lloyd Cameron, Kristine Garrett, Jeff Dagut, and Cheryl Warwood. Please note that the next Youth Dance will be held at the Legion on Friday, March 20 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Age group this time around is to be 13-17 year olds. The STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) Program which began March 10, MeNicoll Public School, started off quite well. 28 parents showed up for the first class (classes will run for nine weeks). George Vander Schaff, who has a Master's degree in Social Work, Dan Crocco, Ph.d., and Dan Downey who has a Bachelor of Science in Social Science and presently employed with the Children's Aid, are conducting the STEP program. The three men were St. member United Church minister now connected with the television program 100 Huntley Street, was part of a group that appeared Friday at Knox Presbyterian Church in Midland. The group from World Christian Ministries was on a tour promoting the distribution of Bibles in Communist Europe. Z Z Z G Z Z Z at Port: pleasantly surprised at the good turnout. The purpose of the program is to study basic child-training principles and methods. It's designed to help parents relate more effectively to their children. Reeve John Moreau and his wife, Lorene, are the proud grand- parents of a _ second grandchild. Their daughter, Donna, Mrs. Vince Onorato of Brantford, gave birth to ason Friday, March 6, a healthy eight-pound six- ounce boy. Mr. and Mrs. Vince Onorato are both school teachers in Brantford.
