Students stud Students and teachers at Elmvale District High School rocked on to the sounds of such music greats at Elton John. the Beatles, Led Zepplin and Bill Haley last week when Paul Dipietro, a disc jockey for CHUM radio presented the 'History of Rock"' in the school gymnasium. The students gathered for the assembly last Friday afternoon, to hear the comments of the D.J. and view a 30- minute film presen- tation on the origins of rock music. As the film dealt with musicians like Billy Joel. Bruce Springsteen Gary Newman and more. young people were encouraged to show their likes or dislikes as each ap- peared. What resulted was high volume music, some vigorous applause and the _ occasional outburst of boos. Educational value According to Mr. Ted Roberts; principal at EDHS, the presentation had educational value in that it taught students their cultural background by showing how modern music was formed from a classical music background. Beethoven's influence on E.L.0. was shown, Supertramp's ability to adapt and survive in the changing music scene, rear of the auditorium, yanew history much fun as the young Gene Hackman Barbra Streisand Springsteen's influence the teachers had just as _ people. by Elvis Presley and the persistence of Styx in HMELDOVER TIL SATURDAY NIGHTLY 7&9 She's got a way with men. staying in the musical limelight, were all touched on.
