As I See It with a 1.7 mile walk Tuesday morning in which 1,600 students took part. That's certainly a step in the right direction as far as health goes but it shouldn't stop Generally, the young people in our schools are nretty healthy as they work out almost everv day when they play school sports but walking downtown to stand around with their Certainly, their free time can be spent better than that. The main problem, say some, is that there just isn't anything to do in Midland. Well. don't believe it for one minute! There's minor baseball, ladies baseball, men's baseball, men's volleyball, ladies' vollevball, senior and junior ball hockey, all levels of lacrosse, roller skating to be opened soon in Midland Centennial Arena and all the programs offered at Midland YMCA, just to mention a few. On the whole though, Midland and area youths are in very good shape and the maiority of those people will stay in shape. The biggest problem young people face is that of example and that starts in the home. remedied, it could turn into an epidemic of non-fitness in young people. A lot of people will say that statement is blowing things all out of proportion but remember just a few years ago when studies came out, showing that a young Canadian about the age of 20 years old was in the same average condition as a 60 year old Swede. Things have gotten better in the past few years though but they can get better yet and Toronto Maple Leafs are in the playoffs. With their 16th place finish, it won't mean much because now they have to face the first place team, the New York Islanders, who are also the resident Stanley Cup Champions. Now. it would be pretentious to say the Leafs don't stand any chance of staying in the plavoffs more than four games with the Leafs are in the playoffs and thank God for small mercies.
