a Budents, staff walk-out? What looked like a massive walkout of students and staff at Midland Secondary School Tuesday morning was actually a recognition of National Health Week. Students and staff at the school took to the streets to traverse a 1.7 mile course up Hugel Avenue, across Old Penetang Rgad, down ---- Yonge Street and across on Noreen Street to return back to the school. First walkers back to the school received yellow and purple ribbons with some students finishing the course in just over 20 minutes. It is estimated approximately 1,600 - students and staff took part in the walk. MSS athletes in action today Athletes at Midland Secondary School will be busv today with 60 track and field athletes from the school attending the Simeoe County Indoor Track Meet at York University. The meet today is for athletes from zones two and three with the top two athletes from each school advancing on to there will be athletes from zones one through Six. Students will compete in the following events: 50 meter hurdles, 50 Recreation curling The Midland Recreational Curling League, operating Wednesday nights in Midland Curling Club, will be holding their championship finals tonight. There are 32 teams in the league and the finalists will be com- peting in one draw that will start at 7 p.m. and run until 11 p.m. They will be com- peting for the Gunther's Watch Center Trophy. Another event planned for Midland Curling Club is the Huronia Auto Glass and Mirror Mixed Curling Bonspiel, sponsored by Nelson Cote of Huronia Auto Glass. There will be 18 local teams entered in that event and they will play two eight-end games with action getting underway at 9 a.m. Saturday. There will also be a final party and dance at the end of that bonspiel. It will start at 7:30 p.m. and run until 9:30 p.m. and further sessions will be held April 16 and 23 with a graduation rally being run April 745. That will be a test of what the participants have learned in the classroom from the in- structor, Lee Peace. Peace is an experienced rally driver, having raced with the Volvo Motors of Canada rally team for seven years. There will also be other expert instructors at the course. The graduation'rally will take the drivers from the Barrie campus of Georgian College, up to Orillia on backroads and then back to Barrie. Fees for the course is five dollars which includes a booklet on rally driving and your registration into the graduation rally.
