M.P. will be in the offices of CONTACT today during the hours of 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. To mark the International Year of Disabled Persons, the ministry, with the help of associations for the mentally retarded, has simplified three ministry fact sheets so they can be used to teach the mentally retarded consumer rights and responsibilities. The three fact sheets, now available in French and English are: Six shopping Tips; Tips for Shopping at Your Door; and How To Get a Refund or Exchange. Fach of the fact sheets deals with solutions to every day problems, which are com- municated in simple language using easy to understand illustrations. Also available are three talking books on different consumer-oriented topics. The talking books are a simple way of com- municating information by means of audio tape to visually impared people living in Ontario. These tapes, which will be translated into French this summer, explains the do's and dont's of smoke alarms, give tips on how to be a smart shopper and describe how to com- plain effectively. The information has also been transcribed into braille. Sarah Coombs, the ministry's Consumer Education Co-ordinator says the talking books will soon be available in libraries throughout the province. Mrs James Ashworth, Melodie, Nelson and Duncan are spending the week visiting with Mr and Mrs. Ted. Svmpathy of the community is extended lo the family of the late Mrs. Lulu Gallon who passed away last Tuesday and also to the family of the late Mr. W.A Tsaac who' passed awav on Friday, with the funeral service beins held on Sunday afternoon. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Manley Edwards were Mr. George Lockhart of Hillsdale and Mr. Tom Lockhart of Penetang. Mrs Gary Edwards and Mrs. Dan Middleton attended a Girl Guide officer's Camp during the weekend. Saturday, Mrs. Pat Rumney of Toronto visited with Calvin and Eleanor Edwards and on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs Ray Rumney of King City and Mrs. Gordon Doyle of Thornhill visited with the Fdwards. Fitness Program well attended Today and tomorrow will be the final two davs of the well- attended Fitness Testing Program at Midland YMCA. In the program, assessments are made on the participants' blood pressure, fat level. grip strength, heart attack risk, ab- dominal strength, en- durance, flexibility and cardiovascular effic- iencv using a stationary bievele. Testing takes about 45 minutes. Costs for the testing are $5 for YMCA members or $10 for non- members. Times for testing todav are from 1-8 p.m. with tomorrow's testing taking place from 1-6 p.m Dave Hamilton, phvsical director at Midland YMCA says the program is booked solid but a further program might be planned should enough support be shown.
